@dannydevit0 I can’t recall - are you in-state?
@Mamelot no I’m out of state from California!
@dannydevit0 Congrats! I’m really happy for you man. I haven’t heard anything yet and am starting to get a little nervous
@vvfor3 thanks so much! Honestly I think you might get in this month! I talked to an admissions counselor last month and he told me that it looks like they do a lot of the applications on Saturday, so I suggest not worrying yourself by only checking on Saturdays after 4 pm minnesota time, as the admissions office closes at 4 their time! Good Luck!
@vvfor3 When was your application completed?
@UniversityGeek Around October 15th
@vvfor3 and you applied to Carlson, correct?
@UniversityGeek My first option was CBS and my backup was CLA
Okay, I’m a bit confused how admission works because some people who applied in August are still waiting while it too me only 3 weeks wait from when I sent out my app. Weird huh?
@UniversityGeek Yea it is! I’ve seen more CSOM and CLA acceptances than other colleges
College: Biological Sciences
ACT: 30
GPA: 3.76 UW; school doesn’t weigh, but it’s around 4.2
Wisconsin Resident
A ton of music extracurriculars but no leadership roles (all because there are no leadership roles in my clubs) and two study abroads
@universitygeek and @vvfor3, my D2 is still waiting. Applied to CLA in August.
In-state
GPA: 3.64 (uw); 3.65 (w).
Class Rank: top third
SAT 1260/1960
AP’s: World History, Language and Comp (5), Stats (in progress), Gov’t (in progress), Lit and Comp (in progress)
Lots of EC’s and leadership
I was accepted to CLA today! I applied in the middle of October through the Golden Gopher application!
OOS
GPA: 3.9 UW/4.3 W
ACT: 32
Rank: 9/301
All of my classes were accelerated/gifted classes, amongst those, 16 of them were AP’s.
@UniversityGeek and @Mamelot Are my chances of getting into CLA less than other applicants since I put CBS as my first option and CLA as my second?
@vvfor3, I don’t think so. The applicant is asked for a 2nd choice major/college for a reason - if the fit isn’t right for choice #1, but definitely fine for choice #2, they are going to admit that applicant to the 2nd choice. CLA is a fallback for the more competitive colleges - sometimes even if the applicant hasn’t specified it!
Not hearing back in the fall doesn’t mean that the candidate will be rejected. It probably means that something about the application pushed it to a later notification date. U of MN seems to be timing its decisions for the most select candidates along with those of other ED and EA programs - many of them from very competitive universities. (December 15 is the first ED notification date for a lot of these). Once they have completed this de-facto “first round” of notifications, they will address the remaining applications.
That’s the way I see it, at any rate.
I’m going to post this again as a reference to how long some people had to wait last year (even those who submitted apps in August and September)…
Thanks @BrewCrew82.
Post #13 is essentially the same as my D2’s application with the exception that she is in-state. This person heard back by early Nov. but it’s really not much beyond that now. @vvfor3, aren’t your stats also pretty similar?
