"It doesn't matter though because Berkeley uncaps the GPA and takes into account more than 8 AP/honors semesters."

Is that true? I'd be really happy if it is.

Actually, today I was thinking, and I realized the more classes you take, the lower your maximum potential UC GPA. Taking 7 classes each semester in my 10th and 11th grade years means that -even if I would've gotten straight A's in every class for both semesters of both years- I could only have a maximum UC GPA of 4.28

I so wish I was in-state. I've known since the end of my freshman year where I want to go, I should've persuaded my mom to move away from the midwest

how many high school courses have you all taken? i took alot of classes i didn't need (theater) and it lowered my gpa (yes theater goes into my academic gpa). i had 15 more credits than i needed to graduate after junior year and i had never taken summer school.

I'm going to have more than enough credts when I finish this year (11th) too. Like I said, the maximum UC GPA I could have if I would go back and get straight A's in 10th and first semester 11th is 4.28. I don't know how I'm supposed to compare with people who have a 4.4. That's not even possible for me!

Some extra classes do lower your GPA, and according to my counselor, that will hurt at UC's but not private schools because they look at courseload as well (the UC's seem to be a bit more numbers-orientated). The GPA system is flawed anyway - my school doesn't offer many AP/honors for sophomores, so unless you skip classes, your 10th grade is honor devoid except for honors chem or physics.

3.75 unwiethed took 7 Ap.'s and alot of honors throut my time ;
