I took the SAT in May and got a 2060 with a 710 in Reading, a 710 in Writing and then a 640 in Math. I really wanted to improve my score especially in the Math section, so I signed up for the SAT in June.

Also, I'm retaking the ACT in June and really I'd just like to send only my ACT scores in, but I stupidly already sent in my SAT scores...

And so the problem is I thought I would take practice SAT sections/tests a lot in the past month and improve my score, but the fact is I haven't practiced much at all. The test is on Saturday and I doubt my score will magically go up. Should I move my testing date to October and skip taking the Subject tests in October (I have not taken any Subject Tests so far...) and focus on the upcoming ACT? What is your opinion?

I'm worried about my SAT score because my GPA is on the low end for Michigan standards (3.78ish it should be a 3.8 by the end of the school year).

Thanks.

with a 3.78 you are looking good acceptance wise into UM if you go to a pretty respectable high school or if you did a good big of clubs/sports and did well in them (average w gpa from my hs into UM is 3.69)

but UM doesn’t require any subject tests, but others that you apply to may

I would say take the subject tests now because they are still fresh in you head (if you took the class this year)

But I would say get a 3.8w from a good hs and get above a 2100 and you will have a pretty good shot

Thanks for the advice.

Just to make the situation a little bit more clear…

I can’t sign up for the subject tests for this June any longer unfortunately, and I looked through the list a while back and I haven’t taken classes recently in any of the subjects.

If a 2100 is the ideal are you suggesting I take the SAT in October and skip the Subject Tests? Because I doubt I will get a 2100 if I take the SAT this Saturday. And if I study all summer I will definitely get a 2100 or possibly better.

Your SAT score is fine. If your ACT score is better than they will disregard the SAT score. You can take the SAT on Saturday if you want but I don’t think that a 2100 will be significantly more impressive than the 2060. I would not take subject tests unless you are applying to schools that want them.

Okay, the main question is should I improve my SAT score by taking it in October or should I stay with my present score by taking the SAT on Saturday and receiving about the same score and take Subject Tests in October?

UM doesnt need SAT subject tests
If other schools you are looking at don’t need them either- focus more on the SAT I test and try to get 2100+

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. SAT II’s are an utter waste of time and money if your planning on sending them to U of M. I asked an admissions counselor and she told me they just throw out your SAT II test scores because they don’t use it at all in the admissions process. Zero influence, nada, nothing. People might send them to alleviate their anxiety but the irony is that all it does it makes you look desperate and annoying.

take SAT II’s only if the schools ask for them (i.e most of the ivy league schools and other top public schools)

are you in state or not?because michigan is one of the schools that seems to prefer the act(it is a midwest thing)

I disagree.
Most in state students take the ACT because it’s a HS thing. I definitely don’t think michigan prefers one to the other.

why do more midwesterners take the act over sat?what was the act called originally?the Iowa test…

Umich accepts both, but why wouldnt u just take the act and be done with it?It is shorter and easier…
