I’m still applying right now, I have the following questions and any answers or advice regarding my questions would be really appreciated!
- What would the planning distributions of positions in different majors under Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences generally be like?
- Will other colleges, majors, or admission options besides my intention in the application form, such as the "undeclared" options or the College of Arts and Sciences, be automatically considered with me, in case I'm not eligible for my intended field of study?
- I learnt that C.A.S. has much more freshman enrollments than other colleges, does it mean that it's much less competitive to get in?
- Would you give any specific advice for me to basically avoid the competitiveness of admission?
- Would my chance of getting in U Pitts decreasing with time goes by?
- I'm especially eager to attend the U Pitts because I have legacy in U Pitts and think the environment is the fit to me based on my campus visits and activities involvements, I've learnt that some universities deny the applicants partly because they estimate them not to matriculate in. Is U Pitts currently undertaking this reviewing policy?
- Are you receiving extraordinarily numerous applications this year over the past that makes the admission condition significantly different?
- What kind of students are U Pitts actually looking for? (personality, specialties...)
- Generally what is the proportion they would like to give to the international applicants?
The questions use the admission officer as the subject which was originally directed to, if you got confused.
Hello!
Pitt Admissions Staffer here. Let me try to address as many of your questions as possible with a brief explanation of our admissions process.
Your intended major is not a huge factor, all students who are admitted to the School of Arts and Sciences will not officially declare a major until they enroll at Pitt and meet with their academic advisor. The School of Arts and Sciences has more than 100 majors, it is the largest school on campus because it contains the majority of our academic programs. Admission to all of our schools is competitive, but the number of seats available in the School of Arts and Sciences is much larger than the other freshman entry schools. We are absolutely still accepting and reviewing applications, so don’t worry. Get it in as soon as you can and we will take a look! Based on your last question about international students, I just want to let you know that April 1 is the international student application deadline.
For more information on the kind of student we admit (question #8), I would recommend you take a look at the following resources.

-International Admissions Guidelines: https://oafa.pitt.edu/apply/admissions-process/international-students/
If you have not already emailed our international admissions counselors, they would be happy to discuss your questions with you as well: intladm@pitt.edu.
Best,
A Pitt Admissions Staffer
