This is for my 10th grade schedule. Is ap European history really worth it or is an elective a better idea? I have heard only mixed reviews. Also the maximum number of ap courses a sophomore can take at my school is 2. I’m planning to take ap world history for sure. If I take euro with whap, will it be too much of an overload? Other classes I’m taking are algebra 2 pre ap, English 2 pre ap, Spanish 3 pre ap, chemistry pre ap, and art 2 pre ap. I can take euro later on in senior year or junior year. But the thing is that each of my high school years I’m going to be busy with something. In 10th grade I got psat, 11th grade is sat/act, and 12th grade is college admissions. I do understand that I will have take an increasing amount of ap classes later on my school years. Should I take ap euro this year or later on? I plan to touch the engineering field and medical field somehow in high school, haven’t decided my career. A lot of my friends are taking ap European history because of the gpa boost. Others aren’t taking it because they need to complete their necessary credits, I got all my credits. If I do plan to touch the medical field I have to take the principles of health, a necessary course to take clinicals or pharmacy tech course ( pharmacy tech is for seniors only). Clinicals is basically first hand experience of the medical field. If I go pursue the medical field in college but didn’t take any medical courses in high school or only one or two years of medical courses, would that still be fine? Or is it fine if I took ap European history, but pursue a medical field in college? Minus point is that principles of health Sciences only gives 4.0 gpa. I also understand some people take multiple ap classes in a year, but the maximum is 2 for me this year. If I take euro then I’ll take principles of health sciences in 11th grade and will have to decide between pharmacy tech course or clinicals ( which is a two period course). Or I could take both. If I take principles of health sciences this year then I can save a period for whatever ap class I want let it be ap euro, etc. if I do take principles of health in 10th grade then my plan for eleventh grade would be some math course, English course, history course, science course, ap art history, ap computer sciences, and an open space for any kind of course. I’m not sure if I want to do clinicals later on, but pharmacy tech seems interesting. I don’t want to be a pharmacy tech for a career, but I thought it shows interest in medical field and also the courses doesn’t seem bad. Clicnals is okay but you have to wear scrubs and all. I’ll think about clinicals later on. I find ap European history and principles of Health equally attractive, but don’t have room to take both and I don’t plan to drop any of the other courses I have planned for tenth grade. I just want to take a decision that won’t give me any regrets in the end. I had originally planned to take ap euro and see how it turns out. If it’s too hard I’ll switch to principles of health sciences, but I had a change of heart and took principles of health sciences instead (only 4 spots left in that class). I’m really confused and I just want to take a decision that won’t hurt me somehow later on. Sorry for the long text but this is what’s going on in my mind right now. Pls reply with some advice I need to make a decision urgently. Also the teacher for ap euro is good. Same for the other class. Also I think I can take two ap classes because my amount of ap classes later on will increase anyways. Previously I had taken hgap and did really good in it.
Pls Any advice?
AP World and AP Euro are not very difficult courses; if you did very well with Human geo then you shouldn’t find the content itself very hard. The only concern you would have is simply the workload, since WHAP and Euro are pretty reading heavy classes. The rest of your schedule looks manageable, but your decision is completely dependent on your work ethic and speed (though it’s good that both classes have good teachers!)
Also, you don’t need to take any medical classes in high school, colleges will not reject you because of that lol. If you are planning on pursuing pre-med in college, I would invest more time in taking AP science classes in your junior and senior year. The health classes you mentioned do not seem that rigorous, and colleges will probably be more impressed by APs. Colleges are not extremely interested in your specific career choices atm anyways. Also, don’t worry about taking APs that aren’t related to your interests; if anything, it shows that you are willing to learn a variety of things.
If you want to get involved in the medical field, it might be better to volunteer at a local hospital.
Another thing, when I was in high school they also offered several health/medical classes, but many of my classmates who took those courses found them to be unhelpful and underwhelming. I would talk to your counselor about these classes before finalizing your schedule.
