Hi there,
I’m currently a sophomore. Last year I took my first ap course, ap human geography. This year I’m planning to take-
Pre ap Chemistry
Pre Ap algebra 2
Pre ap Spanish 3
Pre ap English 2
Ap world history
Pre ap Art 2
Ap European history
Ap world history is a core class, but ap European history is an elective. Should I keep ap European history or change it to principles of health science, which is a necessary course to take of you want to do clinicals next year. Clinicals is basically teaching about the medical field and being trained in a hospital and various tasks, but it asks for commitment, around three years. I’m stuck between ap European history and principles of health science. Ap European history’s main advantage is that its GPA will be high 5.0 while principles of health science is only 4.0. Plus I have heard ap European history is difficult for some students but our teacher isn’t that bad. Pls advise me which one should I pick between these courses?
If the clinical is important to you, them take Principles of Health Sciences because the courses you choose ought to tell colleges about your interests. Plus the effect on your GPA would be minimal.
I’m biased, since I took AP Euro last year, but I loved the class. My teacher was a wonderful history teacher, and I genuinely enjoyed the material. If you like history in general and want to learn about the background for major events in the past, definitely take the class. However, with potentially two history classes, you should think about whether you want the overload of history (but, this may be a good thing, because there is some overlap between the two courses in terms of essay writing and material). Also, if you want to pursue a career in the medical field, Principles of Health Sciences sounds like the better option.
This point is very valid. While the workload will depend on the teacher, it’s high probability that each course will have tons of reading and that you will have major papers due at the same time. Don’t get me wrong, AP European History was one of my favorite classes, but personally, I would push it off to senior year.
