Advice for Kelley Freshman Spring Schedule

Need advice for freshman Kelley Spring Schedule (is Hutton Honors student) with an intended marketing major.

Classes planning to enroll for are: Need to keep GPA up to get into Kelley Business Honors

MATH-M 119 - Math is not my forte. Currently taking MATH-M 119 with McKinley and getting a B. Which professor would you recommend for MATH-M 119 - choices are: Manoharan P, Semail Ulgen Yildirim, Staff, Orrick W, Hendrickson J, Levenberg N.

BUS-X 205 is currently waitlisted. Is it worth waitlisting or should I consider BUS-X 204 (non-honors) instead? If so, which is a good and easy professor (wanted McKowen but his section is full)? Choices are Easton A, Steiner-Williams J, Meunier J, Kelmer M, Herman A, Rieseberg R, Heidewald J, Neher D, Morrone M, Goddin J, Ryan K, Solomon J and Burks A.

BUS-A 201 Financial Accounting - The honors version is full. So have to take the non-honors. How is Head, J as a prof - easy to understand, good grader?

PSY-P 101 INTRODUCTORY PSYCHOLOGY - Which professor would you recommend. Choices are: Sklar B, Nosofsky R, Thomassen L, or Summers P. Need it for N&M credit but not really a science person. Any other easy N&M courses would your recommend?

BUS-X 255 - Would you recommend CROSSING CULTURES with Kolovu T, or VIRAL MARKETING with Kelmer, M?

BUS-X 220 Career Perspective with Dayton.

ECON-E 201 - Choice of Peter Olson or Self J - which one would you recommned?

For Calc DO NOT get Manoharan P he is a foreign professor and you cannot understand a word he says. He is not even able to truly understand your questions. Worst teacher ever.

Don’t take X204 with Meunier. Also, if you don’t get enough feedback here you can always look online at the grade distribution to see which professors give out the best grades.

You might look at the grade distributions for past semesters and choose one of the Honors seminars (HON H203 [for A&H credit] or HON H204 [for S&M credit]), as the topics tend to be taught once every year or so by the same professor. These classes have very easy grading and are full of Kelley direct admits who are looking to maintain their gpas. My son took three of them and all were easy solid A’s.

Ryan is very good grading for X204, probably easiest in the department and you will learn alot. You probably won’t be able to get into her classes until next fall or spring, as her’s are very high demand sections and already full for Spring 2011. It is worth waiting for, though, if you can find something else to take. My son could not get in until spring semester of sophomore year, and there were at least three business honors students in his section who opted for Ryan rather than take X205 with its heavy work load.

Sklar is probably the best grader for Psychology 101 and probably the easiest A. He only teaches evenings, though.

If you are not strong in math, consider not taking calculus at IU (take it at a cc over the summer, or take it after getting into business honors) if you are worried about your gpa for getting into business honors. People get into business honors all the time without having taken both finite and calculus during the freshman year.

Taking A201 as a freshman trying to get into business honors is kind of a high risk move. A205 grades much, much easier. Freshman tend not to do very well in A201. I think a lot of students wanting to get into business honors take A205 if they have the credits to get in, but don’t take A201 if A205 is full, as it the grading is very tough. Hewitt usually teaches three sections of A205 in the spring and none in the fall; this year, however, he is only teaching two in the spring, so perhaps he is going to teach two sections in both fall and spring next year (Sprinkle did this for A207 beginning in 2009-2010), so you might be able to get into A205 in the fall [maybe send him an e-mail and ask if he will start teaching fall sections of A205?]. You don’t have to have taken A201 or A205 to get into business honors. Have a high gpa and leadership positions in clubs, student govt, etc. and that will make you competitive.

Do NOT, and I repeat do ** NOT ** take P Manoharan (aka “Mano”) for M119. I currently have him for Finite and I’m losing my sanity by the day because he’s completely impossible to understand. He puts in the effort, which I appreciate, but god dangit his class is painful to sit through.

I also currently have Econ-E201 with Peter Olson. It’s by FAR my favorite class; Olson makes class fun and does a good job teaching the material. He’s really anti-liberal and tries to sway you to the right so if that doesn’t fly with you, you might wanna take Self. His tests are kinda hard, but other than that, he’s by far the best professor I have. Most of my friends have Self and they complain all the time.

We are probably in the same class for finite. Mano is impossible to learn from.

^Are you in MWF 1:25?

All,
Thanks for your suggestions. Glad I asked for advice. Will stay clear of Munier or Mano.

For Math M-119 was considering Hendrickson J - hope he is a good choice!
ECON-E 201 with Peter Olson. He seems like a good professor. Hope he is not too harsh a grader.
PSY-P 101 with Sklar or Summers, but it may not fit into my schedule.
BUS-X 204 with Ryan K.
SOC-S 110 Bars Charts and Graphs for N&M Credit with J. Sprague-Jones

Any suggestions for easy N&M, A&H or S&H class? Not a big science or math person.

Is it wise to leave 8 I-Core pre-reqs for next year? At the rate at which classes fill up, I am afraid that I may not be able to fit them into my schedule next year.

I’m still going to have 9 left after this year, but probably going to take micro over the summer. I think I’m going to have Hendrickson for 119 (I also have McKinley for finite. TuTh @ 1 is where its at) I’m also gonna have K201, W131, and PSY-P102 (fun semester, I know). Any gen ed suggestions that aren’t an S&H?
