This is Sophocles’ son. I was wondering if anyone has any feedback on the physics professors for this course? Okada, D. Williams, and Shad are teaching it for the fall. If you would prefer, please PM me. Thanks.

I took Schad for 105. He was an interesting professor. Very enthusiastic about his subject, but sometimes he would have a hard time explaining a concept and it would become a very dull class. Of course the problem could be that the class was 2 HOURS LONG. Anyways, he used the Quest homework system, which was hard, as it was possible to actually get negative points on questions. But I believe they might be changing that this year since so many people railed against it.

He gave 2 tests and a final. The first test was ridiculously easy, the second was the exact opposite. The final was an ok balance. His emphasis is really on the theoretical and “why” aspects of physics, so his tests tend to be situational based, instead of more math based, which is the opposite of the homework. I don’t know if this is a general trend in the physics department, as I have only had one class. But most people seemed to like him.

I liked his class, because the T.A. was very helpful, as was Prof. Schad. The labs werent hard at all (except for maybe one or two). He does a lot of clicker questions in class, which you definitely need to pay attention to. Overall I felt it was a good class and he was a pretty decent teacher. Not exactly an inspiring one, but above average, especially for such a basic course.

My kids liked Dr. Jones. They also liked Mankey (sp?)
