So i was wait listed at Rutgers NB Sebs and I am wondering what to do. Can I effect my future or is it now in the hands of people who are accepted and their decision on whether to attend or not. Also their website says that the deadline to hear back is may 1. Isn't that when most college require their deposits? Rutgers is my first choice so i want to go as far as I can to help my chances. But if I wait to hear back is it possible I couldn't go anywhere else. Also any waiting list numbers from previous years would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

shameless bump

Regarding the May 1 deadline, you should put down a deposit on your second choice school before May 1. If you get into Rutgers you will most likely forfeit your deposit at the other school but your first priority is making sure you have somewhere to go in the Fall. Given the thousands of dollars college is going to cost you, the $250 deposit is small change.

The waitlist at most schools is not ranked (ie, you can’t find out what “number” you are on the waitlist). So you should make sure Rutgers is aware that they are your first choice, you are eager to attend, etc. Contact admissions so they know this. Tell them why specifically you are eager to attend and why they should admit you. Also, if you have any updates–a new transcript, new extracurriculars, maybe a few recommendations–see if they will consider those in as well. You need to distinguish yourself from the other people on the waitlist. Good luck!
