Advice Needed. Cancel SAT Score?

Hi, I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice. I took the june SAT reasoning test. I really wanted to improve my CR score to over 600, since I was so close to doing that on the march SAT. However, I think I did worse on CR, like <600, on the june test. My writing most likely improved from the march test and my math probably stayed the same. Math and writing are easy for me, but CR is so hard. My scores are lopsided. Do you think it's possible to improve my CR score over the summer? My reasoning is that it would like bad if I got a 590 (march), then like a 550 (june), then something over a 600 (october). I plan on retaking the SAT in october anyways, and hopefully I'll be able to improve my score to over 600. I guess the only reason I want to keep my score is because I know that my writing score improved, and that I just may be thinking I did worse than I actually did. Anyways, should I cancel my score? Thanks for reading, I really appreciate any input!

Well if you are positive you did better on the writing then you should probably leave it as is. For one, you never really know how you did. You might have improved your math and your CR score might not be as bad as you think. You just never know. Either way, if you are positive that you did better on atleast one section, don't cancel because colleges super score.

i don't think colleges really care about writing as much, but they do super score. thank you for your advice WantIvy.

I don't believe that's true. Some colleges, for example U of C, discount the Writing section altogether (though, that's likely to change in the near future). Those that do consider the Writing section, though, give it as much weight as any other sections. They may be a few colleges that are the exception, but I'm not aware of any.

The big question for, is, are you "better" at CR than you were in March? Did you read a lot since then? Did you study? If you did nothing in the past 3 months, then your intuition is most likely correct, that you did poorly. However, if you studied, you most probably did better than 590.

You should not cancel your scores for 3 reasons.

You never know how you did. I walked out of the SAT convinced I bombed the math section and aced the CR section. Yet when I began discussing the questions on CC, I found out that the reality was just the opposite: I, to my knowledge, only missed one math questions, but missed anywhere from two to five (hopefully not five. . . ) CR questions.

Since colleges do superscore, your low scores do not matter. 500-500-750 and 750-750-750 is NO DIFFERENT from 700-700-750 and 750-750-750.

You're only going to take the SAT a maximum of 3 times. Giving the appearance of only having taken it twice is pointless, because, as long as you take it less than four times, the number of times you take it doesn't matter.

Wow, thank you Godfatherbob. I liked your list of 3 reasons. I think I was too concerned about colleges seeing a progression to my scores as opposed to just seeing the highest scores. The second reason was really helpful because you made it clear that there was no difference when superscoring.

At any rate, I finally decided not to cancel my score thanks to both of you. I do think my writing score increased on the June test, and hopefully I'll do better in October. Thank you guys!
