Advice on Picking a University

Hey guys. I'm starting the whole college search thing and have come to the conclusion that this is a pretty big decision. Any help or advice of any kind would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A little about me. I'm going into my senior year in a high school in South Florida with a weighted GPA of 4.639 (I don't know what my unweighted would be). My SAT score was 2140 (Reading: 690, Math: 790, Writing: 660). I'm very interested in math so that leads me to engineering, however that is not set in stone. Some of the colleges that I'm currently looking into are UF, FSU, UC-Boulder, UT-Austin, UVA, UC-Berkeley, and UM-Ann Arbor. There are also some elite schools that I might be trying to apply to, these being Princeton and Stanford, but I do not know how good of a chance I have of getting into these schools. I'm looking for a decent party school that will still allow me to get a good job later down the road. In other words I'm looking for a good all around school with a nice balance of fun and work.

If you have any comments on these universities or any other ones for that matter, feel free to speak your mind. I would also appreciate any advice on the whole application process and any other aspect of college. Thanks

How much can you / your family afford to pay?

I’d also consider UPenn in your “elite” school category – has reputation of being the most fun Ivy school and there is engineering undergrad if you are interested in that. Consider UWisconsin, Purdue, UWashington also.

you seem to like schools with a large frat scene. if frats do not bother you I would also add vanderbilt. if you dislike frats rice university is a must (IMO)

some other schools would be u of pittsburgh, case western and carnegie mellon

I just got done with visiting u of Michigan, and it definitely is a party school. There are tons of fraternities and sororities but I would still consider it to be in your elite school grouping. There average gpa is about a 3.8. To calculate ur gpa every a plus a and a minus is counted as an a or 4.0 same for bs and soo on. What would ur gpa be?
