Hello,

I am going to be a sophomore chemistry major this year at a no name private school in jersey. I'm pre-med, have good stats at the school, 4.0 gpa, founded an organization, etc etc.

my main reason for wanting to transfer to upenn is that i never had the need of working my 100% to get those A's, and also of the lackluster diversity (being the only non-White kid out of thirty kids in my calculus class for example).

I wanted to find a niche to satiate for that hole in my chest more than attaining a "better" education. im just wondering if any of you who applied to transfer to any other school had this as your reason, if so is it a good reason to consider transferring in your respective opinion?

thanks,

Wanting a more diverse student body and a cohort who are your academic peers are good reasons for wanting to transfer. But do understand that as far as the latter reason, there’s a long distance between a ‘no name private’ and Penn, so you may be moving from the top 10% of your current class to the 50% level or lower at Penn. It would be different if you were wanting to transfer from the upper end of a top Public to Penn, then the difference is likely to be less.

I’m a lot like you- chem major, easy 4.0 and looking to transfer! Lack of diversity can definitely be frustrating. I came from a moderately diverse high school, but everyone in my college is white or asian. It’s not worth to transfer over THAT though. If you want to experience diversity and a variety of cultures, study abroad. You should transfer because your looking for a new academic challenge. :)
