Advice to all UF Applicants

And does anybody know what the essays usually are about?? Ex. Sob stories… Etc. Thanx

Anyone. Lol. Thanx :).

How likely are you to get accepted to UF as a Junior with an AA degree already in place? What are the requirements that the admission offices look for on your application? Having an AA Degree put you ahead of others perhaps during the admission process?

are you a transfer student or a freshman coming in with their AA?

^ I am not the OP, but I have the same concern with freshman entering with an AA degree.

I have heard from other students that they are not applying (as freshman) to UF because there’s a different criteria as opposed to the typical freshman.

well I applied as a freshman with my AA to UF. A lot of people will say one shouldn’t state that they’re getting an AA on their application. I personally think that if one has good grades in, I’m assuming, DE courses it enhances your app. But definitely apply as a freshmen because its super hard to get into UF as a transfer student<— only apply as a transfer if your freshmen app gets you rejected. So many people at my school made that mistake and got rejected. So I say: use your AA to your advantage, write a dynamic essay, and APPLY EARLY because it can only help you.

If you apply for housing by November 1st, your pretty much guaranteed your pick of housing… (judging by this year housing selection process)

Do you apply for housing separately from the application itself? And is there a certain time you’re supposed to apply for housing?

Also, do you happen to know if there are any decent threads that discuss/recommend housing options?

The housing application is separate from the application itself… There’s no “certain time” to apply for housing, but If you want to live on campus it’s best if you submit your housing application (log onto UF’s housing portal with your Gatorlink ID and pay the $25 fee) right after you submit your UF app. The sooner you submit your housing app, the more likely you’ll get your choice of housing. Paying the $25 dollars will establish the date you’re to chose your room. In April you’ll be asked to pay a $200 deposit and establish your housing contract.

There a bunch of threads that discuss housing, just search the forum for them.

Thanks for the info. So it’s worth the $25 even if I’m not 100% positive I’d choose UF over other schools to which I may be accepted?

I think so… I applied to UF as a safety, hoping I’d get accepted out-of-state and have a chance to leave this god forsaken state.

I was rejected/waitlisted everywhere but UF and UM. Fortunately I submitted my housing contract in October and now have a room in Hume.

Don’t want to get this thread off-topic, so you can PM me if you’re up for it, but I’m curious to know why you ultimately chose UF over U Miami? (I know there are threads about this but I like to hear different opinions instead of general pro/con lists).

I’d like to go OOS as well but in-state, I think UF and UM would be my top two choices.

One good reason to choose UF or UM is money. 20 vs 50 thousand…

Does uf round gpas at all for freshman admissions? Gainesville while not large and glamourous as Miami is probably a better learning enviorment for students. Plus the “Miami lifestyle” is pretty expensive and not attainable by many college kids…,

I’ll be applying as a Junior with my AA into UF.

So my questions are as followed: (Just so you don’t have to scroll back to read my question : ) )

Hey Corbis;

To transfer as a junior you HAVE to have an AA, they will not let you transfer without one. Also, your chances depend on whether you’re transferring from a CC, 4-year public or 4-year private. The preference (aka higher chances of admission) goes in the same order as I typed them.

They basically are going to look at your overall gpa, your pre professional gpa, and whether or not you have all the prerequisites you need for the career of your choice. To be accepted you MUST complete all the prerequisites prior to your semester of admission. Hope I answered your questions.

Kttn2013 thanks for the reply.

I will have my AA by the end of this year, and I’ve got all A’s and B’s in my prerequisites classes. I’m going to be a PSYCH-Major my GPA at the college right now is 2.9 X_x’ I’m really pushing to get it over that 3.0 before the year ends.

Think they’ll accept me with a below 3.0 GPA even though my prerequisites are all A’s and B’s which would result in a higher GPA? I’m not sure, but I’m going to try and see if they’ll accept me or not.

Also should I register for on campus living when I do the application of admission? What do you suggest I have ready/do before I apply?

I’ll be taking 3 more classes in the fall semester this year to finish my AA. So they’ll see on my transcript that I’m still working towards my AA degree. I don’t want to finish my AA then apply cause that will mess up my time. I’d like to get into UF for the spring semester of 2012.

I’ve noticed a lot of questions about UF Housing. Hopefully some of this will help.

TIP: Apply for housing as soon as possible to get your choice (ie. August 1 after you apply to UF, before you’ve been accepted)

TIP: Check out [UF Housing and Residence Education | Facebook](UF Housing). they answer a lot of questions there.

TIP: Live in a TRADITIONAL residence hall your first year. They’re more social and typically better for freshmen. Don’t worry about sharing a bathroom. it isn’t that bad. here’s a student blogger video about it: [University of Florida Housing Communal Bathrooms - YouTube](<a href=“University of Florida Housing Communal Bathrooms - YouTube”>University of Florida Housing Communal Bathrooms - YouTube)

Here are the basics on how to sign up for campus housing at the University of Florida:

  1. Apply
Submit a housing application and $25 non-refundable fee as soon as possible. UF uses your Housing Application Date to put you in line to select your room later. Apply as soon as you’ve applied to UF – do not wait until you’re accepted to UF.
*An application is not a guarantee that you will be offered housing if admitted to UF.

Contract
Submit your contract and $200 pre-rent payment by your due date to guarantee a housing space. If under 18, parents MUST sign Residence Hall Contract(s).

Room Sign Up
You can also choose a roommate based on room availability. A room will be manually assigned if availability becomes limited or you choose not to select a room.

Pay your Rent
Rent is due in full prior to the beginning of each semester. You must apply for a housing deferment to use financial aid funds towards your billed rent.

Move In

Remember that college is expensive and that you’re planning early. Here are some of the costs that I remember paying:

  1. UF Application Fee $30?
  2. UF Housing Application Fee $25
  3. UF Contract Pre-Rent Payment $200 ($400 if you start in the summer)
  4. UF Tuition Deposit $200

You can have your full tuition deferred and your housing rent deferred, but you must submit for a deferrment (housing deferrments are DIFFERENT from tuition deferrments).

Write tips for things to buy… Do you think the UF bedding packages are worth it? Thanks

Yolo. It out guys
