Hello everyone. Here is my situation, i just recently got off the navy, and will be starting school this fall. my plan is to transfer to ga tech after i complete all the required courses which include cal 1 and 2, and some other lab science electives. should i retake pre-cal just to fresh up my mind a bit for calculus or jump straight into calculus 1? I did get a B in college algebra and an A in pre-cal, but it has been 5 years, so i don’t really know if I’m up to the speed still. what do you guys think i should do? any advices will be appreciated!! thank you!
Id suggest you take the refresher course- it cant hurt.
I agree with menloparkmom - a refresher course is a good way to ease back into school. College math is a whole different ball game from high school: the pace is faster, the material broader, the competition tougher. That refresher course will not just refresh your math skills - it will also get you ready for the harder work ahead.
i did take the college level precal already. i already have around 30 college credits, my gpa is 3.55 last time i checked.
I’m just not too sure what should i do next, I’m already 24, i don’t want to make more costly mistakes at this stage. guess i’ll retake the precal again, since i need to maintain a 3.3 overall gpa, and 3.3 for math/science combined.
since i will most likely take precal this fall as a refresher course, then calculus 1 in the spring, do you guys think is a good idea to take calculus 2 in the summer, it’s only a seven weeks long course.
Have you met with the Veterans Advisor at GA Tech yet? Spend some time at the website, and find out who that person is. It is likely that they can help you get advice that is specific to your situation.
It may not be necessary to take precal again provided you are willing to put in the time with online courses such as Kahn Academy.
