Aerospace engineer

I am an incoming undeclared freshman hoping to switch to civil or aerospace engineering. However, I could not get a Chem class because they are all filled up. Do I really need to take Chem 1A for aero or civil engineering ? I know I can take chem during summer but i dont want to waste my summer taking a class that is not required.

All Aerospace Engineering requirements are listed in the general catalogue along with a suggested program of study. Here’s the direct link: [The Henry Samueli School of Engineering - Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering](<a href=“UCI General Catalogue Archives”>UCI General Catalogue Archives)

I’m a sophomore Aerospace Engineer and I’ll tell you that not only do you need to take Chem 1A, but you also have to take Chem 1LE which is an accelerated chemistry lab that sort of combines Chem 1LB and 1LC into one class. After taking Chem 1A and Chem 1LE you never have to take a chemistry class again unless you want to for fun.

If you go the Civil Engineering route, you will need to take both Chem 1A and Chem 1B along with Chem 1LB before you can ditch chemistry forever. Here’s the link for civil engineering requirements: [The Henry Samueli School of Engineering - Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering](<a href=“UCI General Catalogue Archives”>UCI General Catalogue Archives)

Chem 1A is usually also offered during winter quarter so you can just wait until then if you can’t get off the waitlist for fall quarter.

Btw, howcome your SPOP didn’t tell you what you need to do or how to find major requirements?

Thank You mithamlug

about SPOP: they just told me which classes and placement tests to sign up for fall quarter…not exactly how to find major requirements
