I am currently a Chemistry Major, but I would like to change to Chemical Engineering. At SPOP, I was unable to change to an engineering major, so I picked my classes according to the Chemistry major. Will these classes keep me on track to change majors when it becomes available, or will i fall behind any? Also, when can I change my major; at the beginning of the next quarter, or is there a certain time?

My schedule as of now is Chem 1A, Math 2A, and Humanities Core.

I’m a chem eng. major and I’m doing: chem1A, Math2b, MAE 10 and writing 39b. Just try to get that MAE 10 added. also have you passed out of physics 7A or 2? You pass out by placement test or getting a 4 on physics C.

For changing majors I have no idea. Trying calling the school of engineering and asking them.

Hope that helps.

Thank you SheerReflection, I switched over to writing 39B from Humanities core because they end up being the same units/time in the end, and also would allow me to fit the MAE 10 into my schedule, but it is restricted to majors. Does anyone know if I could call the school of engineering to get access to the class even though I’m a chemistry major? I guess I’ll just call them and ask about the process of changing majors.

Here are the change of major requirements:
"Chemical Engineering
Requirements Description
Cumulative UC GPA
2.00 GPA

Course grades
Average of 2.50 GPA in the following courses:

Math 2A-B-D
Physics 7A-B-D and Physics 7LA-LB-LD
Chem 1A-B-C and Chem 1LB-LC.
Other
90 units or less, unless the student has already made substantial progress in courses required for the major."

Definitely try to get in touch with them and see if they will let you change before you begin classes. If not, and you still want to be a chemical engineer, follow the course schedule other chemical engineers are following and change as soon as possible. You should be able to enroll in major restricted classes Sept 18 at 12 during the adjustment period if they don’t give you permission to do it when you talk to them.

almost all of chem and chem e is the same the first 2 years. only real diff is that in chem e you take some programming class (like MAE 10) whereas chem majors take chem 5 (math lab + chem draw). (neither of which are prerequisites until the 3 year or so…, so take them the second year.)

additionally, chem majors take chem 51lc and physics 7e whereas chem e takes chem e 45-a-c in the second year.

the first years should be almost the same. dont fret about it right now.
