African-American Girl with Unique Activities. Chances of Getting into Brown?

Hey everyone. Can any people who have got into Brown help me understand my chances of getting in?

About me:
-3.84 GPA from prestigious high school known for a rigorous course load.
-1940 SAT super score (not great, I know)
-3 sports, year round (one of them is wrestling)
-JROTC (various awards and honors from this, too)
-Play 3 instruments
-Multiracial (First generation from Africa on my dad’s side, mom’s white but has family in Europe)
-One of 5 kids, come from crowded household

So based on just that…what’s it looking like for me?

Just based on the info you’ve given, below-average odds but not by much. Largely due to SAT score.

If you’re recruitable for one of those 3 sports, that might change things, although if you’re a senior that ship has likely sailed.

Your household size would in no way be deemed criteria that the admissions officers would need in order to evaluate your readiness or fit for entry into any university.

I think you are definitely competitive but I am not sure you are really unique enough to set you apart from others. Lots of applicants will have a high gpa from a rigorous courseload…maybe could you be more specific like how many aps have you taken.
These three will give you the most edge:
-3 sports, year round (one of them is wrestling)
-JROTC (various awards and honors from this, too)
-Play 3 instruments

Once again you are definitely competitive and have a good shot but It is so difficult to get in this ivies to hard to say. The main issue is your sat score but I have heard of brown taking people that do not have very high standardized testing because they make up for it in other areas. Good luck!

@jlopez98 My school doesn’t offer APs, only Honors, and I’ve taken a total of 5, but 3 of them have been mandatory. Its a little confusing. Also, at my school, Honors classes are only available to upperclassmen.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. @Waiting2exhale + @NotVerySmart

If your school has placed other students successfully at schools like Barnard, and your school’s educational profile is known to colleges and universities you will have this opportunity to explain what you have done, and not focus on what you have not/lack/been at a disadvantage for taking due to course offerings. (“Honors class are only available to upperclassmen.”)

I know this little thread is not your application, but I thought to mention it.

Make sure you use a language which highlights the aspect of your credentials that you know you have worked hard at, and are proud of.

Good luck to you in your endeavors.
