<p>I have pretty great extracurriculars and received a 25 on the ACT. Im a high school senior from MA attending a public school.</p>
<p>Any thoughts in terms of schools with good African studies programs? I'm looking for a LAC outside of New England, ideally. Just wondering if anyone could throw out a few schools for me to look at.</p>

<p>Bowdoin has an African Studies major. Not exactly outside of NE though.</p>
<p>Kalamazoo College has an African studies interdisciplinary concentration and some great overseas studies programs in Africa..</p>
<p>Columbia University; little known in Africana studies but the professors in my time were stellar. And I mean the undergraduate program, not the graduate school.</p>
<p>i know conn college has the major, as does oberlin, carleton, trinity, barnard, colgate and vassar, but all would be reaches with a 25 ACT not to mention all but carleton and oberlin in the northeast.

<p>Wooster has an Africana Studies major. I think it is slanted more towards African-American Studies, but it also encompasses studies of Africa and the Carribbean. You can also use the travel abroad and independent study programs to focus a specific area of interest.</p>
<p>Wouldn't historically black colleges be likely to have strong programs in that area?</p>
<p>Eh, that's like recommending that a woman go to a women's college if she wants to pursue Women's and Gender Studies.</p>
<p>I recommend Princeton, if only because of Cornell West.
And, although it isn't exactly an LAC, it's an awesome balance/fusion.</p>
<p>LOL Kwu!!! But the question is not without merit. Some womens colleges are particularly good at Gender Studies. Similarly, Fisk University (once the home of W.E.B. DuBois) was once known as having the greatest collection of African-American scholarly papers etc. Of course, that's a distinct field from African Studies. Many schools wrap it all together under the rubic "Africana Studies" or "Black World Studies."</p>
