Hi, I'm looking for small liberal arts colleges on the east coast, as you can see from the title of this thread. :] Going through all of these colleges is overwhelming me, and I was hoping you guys could give me some suggestions. I figure it would be easier if I just bulleted:

-rural/suburban area, basically in a pretty isolated place because I want there to be a strong sense of campus life
-challenging but not extremely rigorous academics
-quirky/hippie/interesting students
-coed
-not to get too specific, but I want it to have a womens studies course, so Bards out. I dont expect anyone to know this though

While its probably a high match/low reach and not quite on the east coast, I suggest you take a look at Centre College in Danville Kentucky, although I’m not sure if it has a woman’s studies program (or if its strong).

new college of florida sounds like it fits that criteria, but i don’t know much about the women’s studies, or if they have that program for that matter, but you can check that out for yourself.
vassar has the program for sure, and they also meet your criteria. check it out: [Home - Women’s Studies - Vassar College](http://womensstudies.vassar.edu/)

Smith is certainly not coed but otherwise a good fit, great school. There are a lot of males wandering the nearby campuses of Hampshire, Amherst, U Mass, …

If you are considering a Public LAC State University of New York (SUNY) Geneseo is a great option. SUNY Geneseo is located in the historic village of Geneseo in the upstate NY Finger Lakes region. The college is 30 minutes south of Rochester NY and 1.5 hours from Niagara Falls.

Please study for the Math before you take the SATs! I would imagine that a number of schools mentioned would be difficult to get into if you don’t get your score into the 600s.

Not sure about women’s studies, but Franklin and Marshall is a lovely small school located in Lancaster, PA, in Pennsylvania Dutch country. It seemed to have a nurturing atmosphere and to be a great place to go.

Please correct my idea of F & M, but I thought it was more of a very preppy crowd – khakis & polos to class rather than a laid back environment.

Mount Allison University in New Brunswick might be a good option. SAT results are not required but would be a help if you can bring up the math.
