After 2 Long Weeks

I get waitlisted. I am dissapointed because although I lacked in SAT's I had very strong grades. Much better gpa's then most who got in. I also have a brother who currently attends Udel.

They want my current grades. Will it matter? They asked for my second trimester grades(mid-year basically) and out of 8 grades I had 5 A+'s. I will have 5 or more again this time. What else do they want?

I know a lot of people used udel as a safety so I think i'll get in but it ****es me off to be in a class with a kid who got in who I have a better gpa and class rank then. And all he does is sleep.

In case your wondering: sat: M530 V570 W600 Essay:10

GPA: Senior year:4.3 Cum: 3.8

I got waitlisted too...
but I'm not waiting...

Delaware is extremely competitive with an admit rate of less than 50%. That said, they have taken students off the waitlist every year I believe. It won't hurt you to stay on the waitlist.

Where will you be going if you don't get into UDel?

Yes, but the yield rate for the waitlist is terrible at UDel, and I refuse to put myself through more mental anguish than i already have. If they wanted me that badly, they would've accepted me. I'm not going to beg a college to take me, so I will be going to Rutgers New Brunswick.

Do you live in Delaware?

no, new jersey

I am from NJ. What sucks is that if I get off the waitlist I will not be able to visit udel and decide. Its either I go or I don't go.

What I was hoping for was to get into udel, visit, then decide between that and penn state.

Oh well. Just another chapter in my *ty little life where I get *ed over. I guess nice guys do finish last.

Harmon25, I am attending PSU over Delaware. The only advantage I saw in Udel was $$$.

did anyone else still not hear?

Not looking good for you....the last few kids from my school have started getting rejections...

I just got the letter telling me I am waitlisted...

woooo! waitlist party.....they can give my spot on the waitlist to someone else, I just enrolled at Rutgers College. :]

ha dam. i was flat out rejected. this delaware school is a bit obnoxious. i got into maryland, miami, rutgers, penn st and what not and not even waitlisted.

eh..w/e..delaware is barely a state anyway.

Su-Fi

Su-Fi what were your stats?

SAT's: 1320/1600.....2000/2400
GPA: B+

good EC's, recs, and whatnot

B+ is only a 3.3 so it doesn't surprise me that you weren't admitted immediately. It does surprise me a bit that you were denied flat out. The median admited GPA at Delaware is around a 3.7 I believe.

the median gpa should not have mattered with those scores

Middle 50% GPA: 3.5-3.92
Middle 50% SAT: 1800-2000 (converted 1200-1330)

His SAT was at the 75%ile but his GPA was below the 25%ile and Delaware is a stickler for great high school performance in tough courses - they say that in the admissions presentation. As I said above, it surprises me that he was flat out denied but it doesn't surprise me that he wasn't a sure-shot. That's obvious just by looking at the class profile. He was probably from MD, PA, NJ or NY since that is the toughest demographic at Delaware.

http://www.udel.edu/admissions/viewbook/apply/profile.html

It seems as though Delaware is really getting tougher to get into. It's been happening a little at a time and my guess is that applicants have been caught off guard. Middle SAT scores are quite strong but they do want the GPA to correspond. Harmon: If you live in NJ is it a real burden to visit DE?

It's an easy ride right down the turnpike over the delaware memorial bridge. The ride isn't very scenic and can take up 3 or 4 hours 1 way(that's right!) if there is bridge traffic. That is a bridge you don't wanna be in traffic on. Other than that it's a little over 2 hours.
