My D doesn't know yet. Either Princeton or Stanford or Berkeley. Now how could that be hard? I won't go into it all over again but it was - and it was my own fault. And while we don't have the feeling yet that the perfect choice is clear, yes it is all OK. I really don't mean to complain here - just telling you your good news has many benefits to all of us. Enjoy.

thanks Alumother-good luck in clearing it all up...doesn't sound like you could make much of a mistake any way you go. Congrats on the great choices.

Thanks. I am composing my "Help Us Decide" every day in my mind as I drive to work. But really, we are very lucky and understand how much it was luck.

Congratulations to your son, kdos! WUSTL is a great school, and he will love St. Louis! The campus is so close to Forest Park, which has so much to offer, and is beautiful--an incredible zoo, museums and many playing fields, golf course, etc. St. Louis also has a great downtown area, excellent professional sports teams and very friendly people. It will be a wonderful experience for him!

Many congrats Kdos! I am thrilled for you! My son loves Wash U, too, and will make (I hope) the final choice soon. He loved "The Vibe" there, and thought the kids were so nice. We did find that the financial aid was not quite as generous as Pomona or Swarthmore, but they are known to be exceptional with aid. I hope that your news in that arena is wonderful. It would be fun to see you there!

thanks irishforever! I love the positive info..

momofthree-best of luck to your S in his decsion. He really has some great options! You think he will choose WASHU? It would be fun to connect there. Thanks for the good wishes!

Ah - a ray of hope! We just returned from one school, and will be going to 2 others. I, too, hope something clicks for my D. My nerves are shot! And now, she says she doesn't want to talk about anything until she has to sit down and make that final decision. Congratulations. I can't wait for that same feeling.

Thanks Kdos! I think my son could ultimately choose Wash U. . . the last school visit will be this weekend, when he will see Brown for the first time, and I guess we have to hope he gets a relatively accurate portrayal in a day and a half. He really did like Wash U a lot, and a very good friend of ours has a daughter who graduated in art last year . . . LOVED everything about it. He is getting mucho arm-twisting from his sister who thinks Swarthmore is heaven, so I just don't know what he will do. I think he might be tired of following after his sister, but she is known to be pretty persuasive. Yikes! Come on May 1!

Congrats! Your son has found what we are really paying for - faculty resources, time, interest, and attention. If a college does not provide avenues for these, it is offering a second-rate education, no matter how high the 'faculty reputation' USNews score may be.

WASHU is over-the-top dedicated to the sciences.

They use robrym's mother-in-law;s maxim: Throw money at the problem, to great effect. The science faculty is superb and well attended to; ie happy. The facilities are unbelieveable and on a seemingly constant round of upgrades.

I'm not surprised your S found a mentor there. Good on you for pesterring them for the merit award. He sould have a wonderful four years.

Congratulations, kdos! And Kdos' son! I hope the financial aid will give this story a vey happy ending. And good for your son for taking the initiative to contact that professor. So many students are too hesitant to make that contact.

I know..the mentor aspect is amazing! I didn't pester them at all. I just had emailed the prof to ask some questions. Anything that happened further, just happened.

< And good for your son for taking the initiative to contact that professor. So many students are too hesitant to make that contact.>

That has been the most amazing part of the search to us really. The profs we emailed were VERY generous of their time. A guy I emailed at Rice sent me page long replies...more than ONCE!

kdos, congratulations from another parent of a very happy freshman at Wash U. Don't dispair. The call came last year on Tues or even possibly on Wednesday. The opportunities are quite wonderful as your son seems to recognise. Good luck.

He got the full-tuition scholarship and is now a Lien Honorary Scholar!!!! YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He loves the school, feels comfortable and is so looking forward to starting out in the Fall.

Thank you all so much for listening and keeping me semi-sane through this whole crazy process!! YEAH!!!!
