After acceptance, should I email and thank college counselor?

Hey CCers,

Well, I got accepted into my dream school Emory and am really happy. Before my acceptance, I contacted one of my regional counselors and asked questions and he really helped me... now that I got in, should I just email a short thank you note about how I am very grateful for his help! I don't know if this is proper or whether it is completely unnecessary so I am asking here on CC. Any suggestions on what would be the right thing to do? Thanks!

In this case, you can thank him, but understand that unless something has changed this year, Emory admissions officers read applications randomly;
that is, while your contact helped you answer questions, he/she may have had NOTHING to do with the fact that you were admitted, and could, in fact, not even know the status of your application (although I would find that surprising…)

Saying “thank-you” would be a nice and gracious gesture.

It is a great idea to email and thank him. Your excitement about getting into the school he represents will make his day!

And congratulations on your acceptance!
