i recently got accepted to the university of texas in austin as a freshman but i have to start in the summer. theres just one problem. i failed pre-calculus this year. i dont need it to graduate and by the time UT gets my final transcript and sees that i havent received credit for that class ill have already started summer classes. what's going to happen? will they kick me out or will i just be put on academic probation. HELP!

You've failed it already? It's only March, is there any way to pull the grade up? Is there any way to drop the class if you don't need it for graduation? If you find that you're stuck with that F, be up front about it with UT. Write them a detailed letter explaining the circumstances and you may be forgiven. If you just start summer classes and then your admission is rescinded you will have fewer options. If you are up front now you may be fine.

my high school counselor said the exact opposite. she said dont let them know and then last semester she said dont drop the class. however she's been proven wrong many times do you really think half way through the summer they would pull me out though?

Well your counselor is a pro, so I wouldn't necessarily trust me over her. So let me get it straight, you failed the class LAST semester? If so, are you sure this is a grade that they haven't been sent already? If there are any circumstances that caused the F other than senior slacking, I would notify UT. Otherwise I think it's a tough call. I do think it's possible that they could rescind your admission. Do you have to start this summer because you were a borderline candidate to begin with? This is a tough one, if you have a way to contact another professional counselor, perhaps another one at your school, you should do that immediately. It would be helpful if one of the admissions reps here could step in and give an opinion.
