Okay so I just completed the FAFSA and CSS profile, and now they give me another bunch of things to do! :(

Some schools request the IDOC, and others want the 2005 and 2006 tax forms and W-2's. How do I send it to them? Do I just make copies and send it to them in an envelope? How should I do this?

It looks like you have only until January 24th to print your status and cover sheet, whatever they are. If you have any questions about that, I'd contact College Board.

However, one of my D's schools does want signed copies of the 2005 and 2006 tax returns and all accompanying w-2s. Our 2006 tax returns won't be finished for another 2 weeks. This school has already notified us and sent a return envelope to use, so I was just going to use their envelope.

My d's schools (not on IDOC) also wanted the 2005 returns. I put them in a large envelope with whatever form they wanted (if there was one), or with a cover letter listing her name, date of birth and social security number. I put it in a 9X12 manila envelope and sent it off to the financial aid office.

It was a blessing in disguise as we can now focus on the IDOC requirements. We just need to keep each other going through the fin aid maze and marathon.
I spend yesterday making a financial chart of what is due when. Then divided into two groups [due 2/15/07 or 3/1/07] of large envelops addressed to each individual school's financial aid office. Just trying to stay organized.

So if they want the 2005 forms is it too late to send it to them? So putting the forms (which pages of the tax forms?) in an envelope with a cover sheet should be okay?

I'd think you'd want to check with the individual schools; they may not want to receive everything piecemeal.

As I said previously, the one school sent my D a letter; it said to wait until 2006 tax forms were completed, then send both the 2005 and 2006 tax forms together.

Agreed about checking with the individual schools. Generally, though, in my (limited) experience, if they want the tax forms, they want everything that was submitted to the IRS: all pages, schedules, W-2 forms, etc.
