Ag majors admission profiles

Hi all. My daughter is interested in Ag business major and/or viticulture wine making. Not sure what her chances are but here are her scores.

ACT composite 27
GPA: 3.5 unweighted 3.78 weighted

Lots of extracurriculars, Vasity Track Captain, Vasity waterpolo captain, steady work,

I’m not real crazy about locking into a major at 17.5 years old. So just looking to see if anyone knows her chances as an Ag business major or advice if tht is a stretch hat woul be in her range.

Also, does SLO consider ethnicity?

Thanks.

That link will show you the avg stats by major. You;ll see your daughter is about avg for Ag and below avg for Biz.

SLO is the only CSU that uses it’s Multi-Criteria Admission process. so, being above or below the avg GPA/ACT doesn’t tell the whole story. Unlike all other CSUs, they consider freshman grades and assign bonus points for students that take extra coursework (math, science and english in particular). These points can make a big difference in admission.
This gives you a flavor of what they are looking for.

I have seen that link before. Although useful for looking at the different schools, it doesn’t paint the picture by major. Since students are accepted by major, not necessarily by school, it would be nice to see the profile by major.

Is it me or does SLO’s admission process leave a little to be desired. I like the school but feel bad for my daughter when she has to pick a major at 17. I know I didn’t have a clue as to what I wanted to do professionally at 17.

I assume it’s not all hype when people say you can’t change majors? Not even with in the same College.

I called the Ag Business department today but couldn’t get an idea from them target goal for admission offers.

It’s not really that hard to change majors at Cal Poly – MANY students do is successfully every year. The biggest hindrance to changing into some majors is low grades. With good grades, it is not difficult to change. My DS changed his major (and college) twice and still finished in 4 years. CAFES → CENG → CLA.

Great to know. Thank you very much. Any idea how competitive Ag Business and/or Viticulture majors are? She is interested in both.
