Aggie Ring - Senior/ Alumni Help

S2 received the following information. His credit standing is U4-Senior, however he won't graduate until 2012. I classify him as "pseudo-senior".

Q1) Do the Student order the ring in "truth" senior year or "pseudo-senior / junior" year?

Q2) This ring is VERY EXPENSIVE, it is around $1048 with the most basic design / engraving. S2 say most of his friends are getting it. I need to hear some advise from Alumni. He is a good son and he deserve the ring. However I want to know is it worth it? Is this one of those tradition for TAMU about net-working thing. It is kind of hard for us to justify not knowing the tradition and the symbol of it.

How to Get Your Aggie Ring

Notice the below dates:

Check Ring Eligibility: 01/6/11 - 02/8/11
Order / Appointment Dates: 01/10/11 - 02/11/11
Aggie Ring Day: April 15, 2011

The ring is a HUGE tradition. Unlike other colleges, everyone pines for the day they get their class ring. It’s based on hours earned, so a junior can certainly order their ring once they are at that threshold (I am not sure if it is 90 or 95 hours as it goes back and forth on the requirement). The Aggie ring is very distinctive, and it is an easy way for Aggies to recognize each other after graduation in the real world. The only two rings I wear are my Aggie ring and my wedding ring.

You’re right that they have gotten very expensive. But it is worth it!

As a non-Aggie who lives surrounded by them I think the ring is one of the cooler things about A&M. They are so proud of them and they all wear them. It is a huge networking tool. If he wants one I would find a way to get one.

I am also confused about the graduation year issue. They make a big deal about the “Class of XXXX” for freshmen and I think maybe you’re still considered a member of that “class” even if you graduate later.

From a “working world” perspective, I spent 8 years in IT recruiting and I can’t begin to tell you how many applicants I know got jobs because of wearing their Aggie ring.
If the hiring manager is an Aggie they will pick another Aggie in a heartbeat!

I think it is well worth the money

I have also search several sites and all have positive comments. Your insights are greatly appreciated and reinforce the outcome. S2 will get his ring. Thanks you all!

I am still wearing my Aggie ring. class of '78.

Tell your son to login to [The Aggie Ring](The Aggie Ring) to check his eligibility. To be eligible, the student needs 90 total credit hours, of which 45 must come from A&M. Thus, if your son is classified as a U4 he may be eligible to order his aggie ring.

As far as the price of the ring is concerned, yes it’s very expensive for guys. The price is only going up as the price of gold continues to increase. There are some scholarship and loan opportunities, so don’t miss out on getting him the ring! It’s arguably the biggest tradition and symbol of the Aggie Network around. Graduates wear them for their lifetime.
