Rings

I was wondering on what people at normal colleges think about class rings, opinons, how many people get them... etc.
I'm just wondering because I go to a Service Academy where Rings are really freakin big, and I'm kinda interested on how normal schools see them.

They just reintroduced the class ring back to the University of Nebraska. For the first time there is a single style. My father got one when they first came out. I didn't get one when I was about to graduate last spring but I imagine that I'll probably get one eventually, but I'm not sure. Rings really aren't my style and considering I'm in med school and for the moment still in Nebraska...but if I go into certain specialties I don't know how well a large ring will work out. If I end up going pretty far away from Nebraska in the future, it might be nice to have one, as a way to sort of identify my ties...

indeed it is

I think I'll get one; my dad still has his. Even if you don't wear it...I think I'll get one.

I got a hs one, and I rarely wear it. I wouldn't buy a college ring for that reason alone.

My roommate bought her hs ring, and wears it every day...on the other hand, I don't know anyone from my hs who bought one. It might be partially because my hs had just been renamed (combined w/another school) and nobody really cared.

My son refused to buy a class ring from HS. He never wears jewelry of any kind & figured he wouldn't wear it. Hubby & I never bought ours either. Hubby doesn't even wear his wedding ring most of the time (interferes with his work & mechanical tinkering). I just wear my wedding & engagement ring & a wristwatch most of the time. So much depends on the indivdiual. For folks who find sentimental value in the rings, it makes sense to purchase them, otherwise it just seems like a good moneymaker for Jostens & similar companies.

I got a HS ring... don't wear it. I'll get one from college too... and won't wear it (most likely).

I think highschool rings are pretty much a waste of time (most everybody I know who is out of college has lost theirs), and when you're in the real world working a job it's probably kind of stupid to wear your college ring around. But it might be a nice thing to have for a keepsake, if you have the money to blow and pictures aren't good enough for you.

class rings are dumb.

I agree - they are way too expensive

in south carolina a ring is a door opener... if you have a ring from Clemson, South Carolina, or The Citadel your chances of quality employment are instantly better

Waste of money, though they do look nice.

One of my best friends in high school got one during his sophomore year. He had to take it off in band since he played French Horn and it would have scratched the bell of the school's instrument (and his ring). Someone almost stole it off his music stand. He wore it maybe three times after that. To think he could have used his money on something like a down payment on a recent used car (this guy drives a 1982 Plymouth, he needs something newer!) when he wasted it on that ring...
