AICE/AP Courses

Hello everyone! I have a couple of questions regarding AP and AICE classes.I hope that you can answer at least some of them. Here are my questions:
•do you guys think it’s okay to mix AP Calc BC with AICE Bio AS Level? Or would it be extremely rigorous?
•how difficult is AICE AS Math?
•how hard is AP Calc (both AB and BC)
• I’ve heard/ read that Global Perspectives,English Language, Marine Science,General Paper are relatively easy. Is this true?
•What is AICE sociology A Level like?
•is AP Gov/Eco easy to pass?
I know that many of these things depend whether or not you have a good teacher, but I believe that for the most part they do. I am very perserverant and I’m dedicated to my studies. However, I’d like to know just how difficult the actual content is. Thank you all in advance!

Are you in Florida?
Don’t take AICE bio with calc unless you have taken Biology honors to have somewhere to start. Aice bio is in depth bio so it will be hard to study for it when you study for AP calc. Also there’s a lot of writing in AICE anything.

Aice math is a mixture of every type of math up to AP calc. it’s relatively simple if you understand geometry and trigonometry. But algebra II is extremely important to the class. If you have a basis in any of those, it will be kinda simple.

AP calc BC is an extended view of AP calc AB. I considered taking it, but when I realized you learn the same things, just more in depth, I went with AB.

Yes all those classes are simple. Global and general are both simple classes that if you fail, it’s basically your fault. Global doesn’t care about grammar as much as general papers. Global is when they give you two articles at the end of the year and ask you questions about them. You write short responses and long responses at the EOC for it. General is 2 essays in 2 hours. And it’s so easy to pass. You can also pick what your essays are about in General. The first semester in General is kinda a waste since you don’t really do anything, the second gets you prepared. Global has 3 components to complete. For me it was a research paper, a presentation, and the written exam. English language is like the second chapter to General papers, so it’s also pretty simple. Marine science is similar to biology. It’s a easy A in my school.

I never took AICE sociology, but people say it’s easier then Psychology.

AP Econ is easy if you take Micro. It was simple for me because it talked about taxes and the different types of markets there. And how the markets work together. I didn’t take Macro, so I would not know, although my friend took it and he said it was easy to him. AP government for me is still a work in progress because we have switched teachers like 4 times this year so far.

*are, not do (<—I made a typo in my previous post XD)
Hi! Yes, I am in Florida (whoop, whoop!).
Ohhhh, I see. I’m advanced and I did bio in 8th grade, so I have some background knowledge, but I think it’s best for me to do AP calc by itself if that’s the case.
I’m taking Algebra 2 as of right now and it’s been pretty easy and Geometry wasn’t bad either (I just kinda forgot a few things since I took it last year, along with bio, but if they mention it in class, I’ll definitely remember!). Thanks for that, it’s reassuring!
Oh okay, so the other classes aren’t too bad, that great to hear! I wanted to know the intensity of each class because I wanted to know what extracurriculars to do once I get those classes (right now I’m a freshman and I’m in varsity water polo and I’m afraid that I won’t be able to do that later on as I progress through HS. I have other clubs and another sport and I was afraid that I may not be able to balance everything out).

Well, thank you so much for your input, I really appreciate it!

You will definitely have time for ECs. Say your schedule is

  • Aice Math
  • General papers
  • Global perspectives
  • AP calc
  • AP ECON / GOV
  • and any extra class like pe or Team sports

AICE math is insanely simple. It covers trig identities, geometry (sin, cos, tan, 45- 45- 90…) To study for the exam, you should get a workbook and textbook for pure mathematics 1. I bought the books and rarely showed up to class because i was on special assignment that period and passed the semester exam.

AP calc is literally AICE math on drugs. Since I had calc before aice math, I basically repeated the same lesson but the top layer in aice and in depth for calc. So if you take calc like for 1st and aice for 3rd periods you can literally pass aice just from calc.

General was basically my filler class for the year. We literally did nothing except write the first half of class, grade it, then work on other things. Global is a progressive class. The teacher walks you through every assignment, and you don’t really do anything else except those assignments. But its a class where you cannot procrastinate. Also, if you know that you absolutely cannot stand the class, even if you think you can, drop it first quarter. I saw a lot of kids try dropping second quarter and they got a W on their transcript because they did it near midterms.

ECON was okay easy. It wasn’t hard, but if there was a difficulty scale from 1 to 10, it would be a 6.5.

I’ve never taken an AICE class, but I do have knowledge of its curriculum, as I go to a school with a pretty prolific AICE program.

From what I’ve gathered, AICE Biology AS is somewhere between Honors Biology and AP Biology in terms of rigor and is equivalent to a semester of college biology for non-majors + lab at Florida colleges (AICE A Level Biology is equivalent to AP Biology and passing the exam earns credit for both college biology for non majors and general biology for majors + their respective labs). At my school, AICE Math AS is almost identical to Pre-Calculus Honors and gives credit for college precalculus if the exam is passed.

Also, if you’re in Algebra 2 right now, don’t take Calc BC next year; take AICE Math AS by itself. Taking AICE Math AS and AP Calc BC at the same time is the same thing as taking precalculus and calculus at the same time, and that’s a very bad idea.

Hi Nkemdirim, that’s awesome to hear, I’m so glad my ECs will be a-okay as long as I balance it out. ^U^
You guys have no idea how happy I am to hear that AICE Math is not as difficult as I thought, I’m crying tears of joy. Additionally, I’d like to say thanks for the recommendation of buying the book, I will definitely look into that.
I started to crack up when you said “AP Calc is literally AICE Math on drugs”, ROFL. XD
As for the other helpful info, thank you!

Hey r2v2018, no worries, any input is appreciated!
Ohhhh, I understand. The thing is that I’m trying to plan out my schedule so I know what I should take and what I shouldn’t. It’s good to know that AICE Bio AS is kind of the in-between of Bio H and AP Bio (haha, that kinda reminds me of the show).
As for mathematics, thanks for the heads up! :3

You guys are all so helpful, I appreciate it very much! What a nice online community  .

I have one more quick question (if any of you know):
How’s AICE Geography?
I was thinking about that class for my 3rd group for the diploma. From looking at Cambridge, it didn’t look too bad, but I’d like to hear your opinions on it. Thanks.

I’d think it’d be similar to AP Human geography. Which is pretty easy and straight forward.

Hello theinvokingsyndicate! Oh alrighty, got it!
