AP classes

Hey guys,
So I took AP World and two aice classes in my sophmore year and i when I signed up for my junior year schedule, i signed up for AP Psychology, AP Environment, APUSH and AP lang… but through the summer i was thinking that I should take AP bio instead of AP Environment… any suggestions?

How did you do with those three classes?
Have you taken honors bio and honors Chem (both are pre-reqs for AP bio)?
What colleges are you aiming for?
What’s your current GPA?

I got a 2 in AP World even though I had A in class ( I misunderstood the essay question on the exam which was very stupid of me) and I did pretty good in Aice Sociology and Aice General Paper). Yes I took Biology Honors but I will be taking Chemistry Honors this year. I am aiming for UF , UCF or USF and my GPA is 3.8 and HPA is 4.5

Then, save AP Bio for next year and stick with your current schedule (assuming tour remaining classes include a foreign language at level 3 or 4 you’re good for the universities you’re aiming for.)

I am not taking any language course in my junior year and i feel like i will be a lot more busy in my senior year with the medical program and all that graduation and stuff which can make it hard for me to take that class… .?

What does your senior year look like?
My recommendation would be to stick with your schedule as is, including honors Chem this year and, if you’ve not taken physics, perhaps add Physics regular instead of APES but I think APES would help you more with Florida publics sue to weighting; in any case, take AP Bio AFTER you’ve completed honors Chem since AP Bio assumes both Bio and Chem have been completed.
As for foreign language, UF definitely expects a third year (and reaching level 4+ in HS helps since it means only having to take one college semester of foreign language, and scoring high enough on an SAT subject can waive the requirement) but you won’t be cut just for that. Since there are foreign language requirements to graduate from these universities, prepare to have to take the highest number of foreign language credits in college (IE., 2 or 3 college semesters - meeting only the minimum admission requirements means having maximum college graduation requirements.) So, you have to weigh immediate benefits v. fewer requirements in college.

let me correct you in one thing, almost 80% of the students that take AP Bio, they take it after taking bio honors and they also take chemistry the same year, so that is not a problem because the basics of chemistry (which you need for AP bio) have already been taught to us in Biology regular or honors… And for the foreign language I already took Spanish 1 and 2 in my freshmen and sophomore year but I am really reluctant to take Spanish 3 just because it just annoys me (not my thing).
and after all UF is not my only option TBH its not even an option because its really far from where I live and I am a lot more willing to go to UCF.
So what do u think now…
Your help is really appreciated sir…

I’d still say to stick to the original schedule.

In our school APES is a notorious “easy A” class, but given that you’re taking APUSH and AP Psych, taking APES might be your best bet. It’s still AP, but it won’t add too much to the workload that APUSH and AP Psych might throw at ya. I’d say keep your original schedule. It’s not like any of the classes are incredibly difficult, but classes like APUSH have a significant workload so it depends on how much work you can handle.

I wanted to know your opinion on the foreign language should I sign up for Spanish 3?

I vote yes for Spanish 3. Also if the earlier posts are correct (and you have a foreign language requirement at the college) how do you plan to fulfill that? If you plan to continue Spanish, definitely don’t drop it now.

If that’s the case how should I shape my schedul efor Spanish 3 becuase right now I don’t have any space unfortunately. My schedule is AP Lang, APUSH, AP Psych, APES/AP Bio, Chemistry Honors, Alg 2 and Health Science 2.

Easy. Don’t double up on a subject at the expense of another core class. So choose between APUSH and AP Psych or between APES/AP Bio and Chemistry Honors. My suggestion is move AP Psych and/or APES/Bio to senior year.

Ideally you’d take Spanish 3 and take the subject test, scoring high enough to get the university graduation requirement waived. Your alternative is to stop now and take Spanish in college.

I am sorry guys but I am unfamiliar with Subject test could you please explain that to me and what is it?

Some top colleges recommend or require Subject Tests as part of the admissions process. However, even if the college does not (e.g. UF), a high enough score on a foreign language sujbect test can exempt one from the college’s foreign language graduation requirement.

I don’t know I don’t really like studying spanish tbh. What is I take Spanish 3 in my senior year?

Sure, but it’ll be harder since you’ll have a one year gap during which you’ll have forgotten a lot. Or you could stop now and take an entirely different language in college.

But I can also forget stuff from biology honors which i need to for AP Bio right?
And after all taking foreign language what is difference if I take now as compared to taking it in college and obviously I am not gonna take AP spanish

AP Bio basically covers everything in Bio H and just goes into greater detail in it (because at some schools people take AP science without having taken the regular/H version). The same can usually not be said for languages. At my school, for example, it’s very common for students to take Bio Honors freshman year and then not take AP until senior year. Taking 2 gap years like that for a foreign language, though, is MUCH rarer (I’ve never heard of it).
