I know USC gives out good merit aid to Finalists, but recently I've been hearing it sometimes gives out aid to Semi-Finalists as well...any truth in this? If so, how much and how likely is it? Thanks!

Where did you hear that? I have not heard of USC giving aid just for being being a semi-finalist. Semi-finalists who received scholarships may have received them for a different reason. (My advice is don't believe anything unless you have first-hand knowledge or a very reliable link.)

My D's friends weren't NMFs or NMSFs, but both got Presidential scholarships & are happy there. They have good grades, scores & ECs but not NMF quality. There are others similarly situated but as a general rule, it's a case-by-case basis.

Agreed. ^^ That's why I was very skeptical. Hmm, I believe I've heard it here and there around CC - unless "NMSF" stands for anything else, either I misunderstood or they were wrong.

That seems right to me. In my case I scored high enough to be a NMSF, but because I have a pretty terrible GPA I very much doubt I'll be a NMF. NMSF seems fairly useless to me on its own - that's why I was so surprised to hear good aid for it mentioned.

Thanks guys!
