I got my scores back from the October test, and here were my results:
E 27
M 25
R 25
S 28
Composition: 26
For a first time taker, I feel somewhat satisfied. But I think I could do better. I've studied since late August and I've taken about 5 practice tests. What do you guys think I should do to prepare for February? My ultimate goal is to get at least a 28 on the ACT (and at least a 30 by April). I'm also interested in telling my parents of a tutor that they could hire for me. Just list some advice. Thanks!

I got a 26 on my first ACT in June l but I took it with 0 prep. A month before the September test I took 2 practice tests and got a 28. I only took 1 practice test before the October test and got a 29. The point is that you should take practice tests and go over your mistakes and learn from them so you don’t make them again. I would suggest taking a practice test every weekend and go over a section each day during the week. I’m assuming you’re not a senior so you do have quite a bit of time to prepare so could be a little more relaxed. After a couple practice tests you’ll start seeing a pattern with the questions and hopefully answer them quickly and correctly. Practicing is the only way to see decent improvements.
