I'm class of 2008, asian female from midwest, 3.98 uw GPA, go to a prestigious competitive private school, i think i have some pretty strong extracurriculars....

my parents have been nagging me to retake the SAT's again though and i really don't want to because it'll take too much time. i took it once and got a 2240 and my ACT score is 34.

im applying to:
Wharton ED
MIT EA
UMich (Ross)
UCBerkeley (Haas)
HYPS
Brown
WashU
Northwestern
UChi
Cornell
NYU (Stern)

would u recommend taking it again? would it really even increase my chances? (esp. for wharton, which is my first choice) i know a 2300+ is definitely impressive, but is it even worth it considering how much time i'm going to have to spend studying + applying + balancing my 5 AP's this year?

I think the general rule of thumb is that for the top-tier schools, you want to be armed with a 2200+. Anything beyond that is bonus, but certainly not necessary or required in any way.

Your scores are good enough that they won't be the deciding factor in admissions. If the elite schools cared only about test scores, then the mid-range ACT at Harvard would not be 31-34, it would be like 33-35.

Students I know have little change in their total scores, but the individual sections go up and down on each test. This could matter if the colleges you want to apply to mainly count M&V and you are looking for a certain score on these two sections.
