For pieces of clothing that need to be air-dried, where do you set up your drying rack/hanging rack, especially as there isn't much room? I don't suppose I can have random pieces of wet lingerie hanging around in my room every weekend.

door handle --> perfect for bras

Nah, really I have hooks on the back of my doors that I hang wet clothes on as they dry (on hangers)

if you don't have much room, I'd say you could hang stuff over the end of your bed (the headboard/footboard) and like pearlinthemist said, door handles work great for bras. I do that even at home. Your friends aren't really going to care if you have your underwear set out to dry (even guys honestly don't care if they're just friends).

I hang my bras on a hanger in my closet thing. I just push my other clothes down a bit so that the bras don't get them wet. I live on a co-ed floor and there are always guys walking by, so I just don't want those everywhere
The rest of my close I hang on the end of my bed. We have loftable beds, which means it's essentially a bunk bed without the second bed. So I've got 3 or 4 built in rungs on the end of my bed. THere's also a board across the side of my bed, where the top bunk would normally be. Obviously these aren't in all rooms, but it's the perfect set up for me.
I had a drying rack first semester, and you can find a place to set it up. Mine was just possessed or something (it would start falling apart randomly) so I finally threw it away, because it just didn't work

Try to avoid hanging wet clothes on wood - the wood may lose its varnish (and it may stain your clothing).

Hanging clothes dry really fast when you're in a high-rise, overheated dorm.

my roommate freshman year had a drying rack that she would put smack dab in the middle of our room to hang all of her thongs and bra's from. I don't know how many times I came home with friends and we walked into her big drying rack. The guys always were so amused.

i hung stuff on the ladder of my bunk bed all the time. or just put your drying rack in your room there will be space for that trust me unless your room is really tiny. and then just fold it up when your not using it.

i would hang stuff on an overhead pipe (my roommate didnt care, especially overnight, and it made our room smell like fresh laundry!).
You can also hang a clothes line over your bed. again, most normal people wouldnt care, as long as its not up during a party or something!

I got this amazing thing at Ikea that hangs over my door. It is a collapsable drying rack (so it folds down to dry, and rests flat against the door when it's closed). The fold-down part has thin metal bars so you can have several rows of clothes clothes-pinned to it. You can also rest stuff on top of the fold down part, and there are also five hooks on it that are accessible even when the rack is collapsed. Can you say PURE GENIUS?

I got a foldable drying rack... I'm really hoping it won't get in my roommates way. =\ But yeah I really do not like dryers (they seem to ruin everything but tshirts) so I kind of need it? Ahh. But yes it fits nicely in my underbed box... assuming that my underbed box will fit under my bed. Eek.

for lingerie, i bought this clever little hanger-- it has a hanger top, but is shaped like a rectangle with a bunch of little clips and i clip my bra straps (and other delicates) to them. it's small enough that i can discreetly hang it on the door to my closet.
