Airport proximity/convenience

Is Reagan vs Dulles vs Baltimore thes best way to get to College Park?
Thanks!

BWI is the closest airport to College Park. Much closer than the other 2.

Certainly not Dulles! Cab ride from Dulles to College Park could take forever, and would probably cost about $100.

If it involves a car, BWI (i.e., Baltimore) is closest. There is also public ground transportation from BWI to College Park, but I don’t know the details. More information is here: http://www.bwiairport.com/en/travel/ground-transportation.

You could get from Reagan National to College Park by Metro. But National is in Virginia, and College Park is in Maryland, so you have to traverse the District of Columbia. It would take about an hour of Subway, plus whatever time to/from the Metro Stations, and involve a change from the Yellow Line to the Green Line at L’Enfant Plaza. Metro is probably a thrash if you have much luggage, but it is relatively cheap.

See [Metro - Home page](http://www.wmata.com) for more information on public transportation.

Also, at some of the heavier-traffic times, the university offers some free shuttles to BWI (I know they do before/after spring break and Thanksgiving break, at least).

Once the new metro line is up, Dulles will probably most convenient actually. I’m not sure when that is projected for at the moment though. By car, I tend to get to Dulles in under 40 minutes (I don’t fly out, I just regularly meet my aunt at Tyson’s corner)

Where are you coming in from? Because flying might not be your best option.

Thanks everyone. I come from NC and usually I drive to DC area, but wasn’t familiar on the distance to CP
It’s just that flying to Baltimore is double but I see… it may be more direct. If I save money to go to Dulles, I end up spending 100 in taxi, then it’s no bargain. Thank you so much.

You will probably be married and have your 1st child before the Dulles Metro gets out there. Tysons is before them and they were online to go @7 yrs ago.

DS visits his dad all the time at the Pentagon, and Reagan is not much longer of a commute. It takes him about 45 minutes, it is def. doable.

The real factor to me would be ticket cost, and I am guessing due to the size of BWI, the price would be better than Reagan. Supply and demand.

I don’t know where in NC you’d be flying from, but from Charlotte, it has varied…sometimes Baltimore is much cheaper (usually Air Tran drives the prices down), but there have been other times that National has turned out to be cheaper.

Sikorsky is correct, but Ds have found flying in/out of National manageable. However, we’ve usually found that Baltimore has been cheaper most of the time. Dulles has never been cheaper than one of them, and has never been an option because of the pain in the neck of getting there.

If you have a car (or a friend with a car), getting to BWI is extremely easy from UMCP.

Thank you! I would have to fly from Raleigh I guess, but all of you guys have helped me a lot! Appreciate it!

From Campus, simply take the 104 shuttle from Stamp Student Union to the metro station (5 minute ride), then take the green line one stop to Greenbelt Station (5 minute ride) and finally take the B30 express bus to BWI airport from Greenbelt metro station (45 minute ride, runs once an hour, i think)

Reagan (National) airport is off the yellow and blue metro lines and to get to Dulles you have to take the 5A metrobus from L’Enfant Plaza station (on the green line)

Thank you foe this valuable info!

Agree with what everyone has said about BWI being the better airport, especially if someone is picking you up. The only issue is that the B30 bus only comes once every 40 minutes, so based on when your flight gets in, you may be stuck waiting for a while for the bus.
