Algebra 2/Trig vs Pre-Calculus as a sophomore

Does it make a difference whether I do Honors Algebra 2/Trig as a sophomore vs Pre-Calculus/Calculus A as a sophomore? Either way, I will finish both AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics. My counselor thinks it may not be a good idea for me to cram in a complicated subject like Algebra 2 during the summer. But I'm all like "Uh, how about no?" in my head.

Does it really matter?

Also, I've found a way to have P.E. not counted on my transcript. My schedule for next year is set at:

Journalism
Honors English 10
Honors Algebra 2/Trig
AP Human Geography
AP European History
AP Chemistry

But, I also found a way to have my Journalism not counted on my transcript. I'm mainly doing it because it's something that I enjoy doing and will look good on my resume. But I can say "Student Service", a class which doesn't count on your GPA. That would give me a perfect 5.0 if I got all As.

But my counselor is concerned that the colleges will think I was just a student service, and not participating in the class like I will be.

Thoughts?

Idk specifically for your classes, but for the most part trivial things like that don’t matter. What is your prospective major? I applied as a social sciences major and I almost failed Algebra II as a junior and I’ve been waitlisted so class selection doesn’t matter THAT much as long as you challenge yourself to go a good degree.

And no, don’t take a class during the summer. You’ll burn yourself out and plus, you’re a high school kid and deserve a break.

You’re a freshman and you’re freaking out about this? Seriously?
Chill out! Don’t take a class during the summer. And don’t worry so much about your GPA. It’s not a big deal at all if you don’t have a 5.0. Stanford isn’t going to reject you solely based on what math you took in 10th grade, and whether or not all of your classes were weighted.
Don’t worry about this. I didn’t do or think anything college related, other than take the SAT, PSAT, and ACT, until fall of my senior year. You’re freaking out about way too much trivial stuff!

Would it matter if I were in Geometry as a Sophomore?

^
I took geometry as a sophomore… : )

Actually, that probably depends on what your major is going to be. If you’re thinking engineering, physics, or math, then I’d say the appropriate sophomore year class would be pre-calc or something comparable to that. However, if you’re looking at poli sci, or international relations, or english, or something like that, then there is absolutely nothing wrong with taking geometry as a sophomore.
Hope that helps! Look forward to seeing you at Stanford in a few years! : )

Economics for me. That’s more of a social science than something involving math, right?

I was worried about having to take Geometry as a Sophomore and not being able to take AP Calculus BC, so I doubled up on it this year.

Depends on what you intend to do with that major. Economics only for bachelors, or going to law school or getting an MBA or something only requires 2 semesters of calc and stats. Being an economist essentially requires double majoring in math.

I say u take alg 2 during the summer…I can honestly say that it is just a tiny bit harder than alg 1…the only thing that I was bad at was the stats part if the curriculum, but even then it was still a breeze…so final point, if u think u can handle it I say go for it!!
