Algebra Placement Exam Prep

I just finished the algebra placement preparation exam at [the Math Department site](http://www.usafa.af.mil/df/dfms/exam_prep.cfm?catname=dfms). The good news is, I think I did well. The bad news is, I don’t know how well.
If a problem says “Simplify”, and I turn out the answer (x+1)(2y+4) instead of 2(x+1)(y+2), for example, is it wrong? If so, is there partial credit given on the actual placement test?
I know the right answer is, “do your best, Roleo, and you’ll do fine,” but all this is going to tell me is how worried I have to be about practicing over and over to eliminate silly mistakes. For anyone who was at the second orientation, you know I’d rather be learning harmonica and sign language. ;)

I know what you are talking about Roleo. One of the answers I got was the same thing, just not matching there answer number by number. Any info would help.

According to the letter I received, both math placement exams are multiple choice, so you shouldn't have any problems with writing (x+1)(2y+4) instead of 2(x+1)(y+2). You won't have to worry about being given partial credit.

Yeah, the test is just practice. You will take another algebra one in basic and that's the one that counts.

The test was not bad at all in basic. I did both the mandatory, and the optional calc 2 one as well. I thought both were pretty easy.

You would. ;)
They are not that bad.

seriously hornetguy, you're practically a genius in my book!

I am horrid when it comes to math. I'm not looking forward to physical chemistry next semester since it is all calc 3. I haven't taken that since 1st semester of 4 dig year!

to answer your question tho, we rly don't know. we took the test, and then saw what they put us into. for the optioanl calc II, i left 7 of the 25 completely blank, and apparently it still was good enough to get me into calc III. so i have no idea how they figure that stuff, other than they factor in your score and Academic Composition (AcComp)

All right, thanks.
I knew that test didn't count, but I didn't realize it would be multiple choice when it comes time. That makes life easier.

I knew there were placement exams in math at BCT, but are there any other exams that we should worry about?

chemistry and languages.

If you are good at chem, definitely try to validate or place into 222. (0 or 1 semester)
