All female dorms?

I'll be a freshman at LSA this fall and really want to be on Central Campus (who doesn't). I know a couple people who lived in Barbour/Newberry and they all had really good experiences there. I was wondering if it possible to request an all female dorm on the housing application. I heard it's possible but someone else told me you can't. Anyone here know? Thanks!

You can definitely request an all-female dorm. It is one of the questions on the housing application. I don’t know if it automatically gets you in an all-female dorm or if it is a preference.

i dont think its difficult to get into an all female dorm, considering every year they place females there that dont request it.

It shouldn’t be hard to get in, but I am also not sure if it is guaranteed. Barbour and Newberry are victims of unfortunate (and false) rumors that there are male visitation hours and that the girls there are stuffily conservative, neither of which are remotely true-- as such there tends to be a LOT of room for new freshmen in these dorms as people hear the rumors and shy away from these awesome housing options. I lived in Newberry and LOVED it, I wouldn’t live anywhere else on campus after having that experience. You couldn’t pay me to live in any of the other dorms.

The Adelia Cheever program is a living-learning community housed in Newberry, if that’s still on the applications as an option I suggest going for it to up your chances of getting on Central Campus. I’m not sure how they handle it now that the whole house is dedicated Cheever, it may not be catagorized the same as the other living-learning communities now, but worth looking into. But it’s just two meetings a month that you can go to or skip if you wish, and they have speakers and things come in to discuss issues relevant to women. It’s a lot of fun and can be a way to lock in a room at Newberry,

@Emaheevul07 I’m really interested in the Adelia Cheever program, but I have one concern: if I wish to return for my sophomore year, do I still need to live in Helen Newberry? Because I am considering living off campus after my first year  Thanks!
