So, I'm going to be a freshman at U of M next year, and I was looking at dorms on the U of M Housing Website. I saw that the majority of freshman end up on North Campus, but I don't want to live there since I'll be in LSA and I don't want to make the bus ride every day. If I request an all-female dorm, does that ensure that I'll end up in Barbour/Newberry on Central Campus? Also, how hard is it to get a single dorm? Where do I have the best chance of getting a single?

If you request an all-female dorm, you will most likely end up in Barbour or Newberry. I don’t think there is such demand that they need to turn women away. Martha Cook is also an all-female option in a great location.

You’re not likely to get a single anywhere as a freshman, but barbour and newberry are lovely options and you’ll be comfortable there-- there is lots of community space to hang out and get your “me” time in, I loved it there. If you request all-female (wasn’t aware that was an option?), it’s likely that you’ll get in there and I think that’s a great idea if you want to stay on central. Two doors down from the union and across the street from angell hall-- you really can’t beat that location.
