I was just issued my contract for Barbour/Newberry Housing. It also says Adelia Cheever Program (of which I didn't even apply to, nor am I sure I want to be in it). I understand that Newberry Housing is home to the Adelia Cheever program, so I assume that's where they will stick me. But if you live in Newberry, do you necessarily have to be part of the program?

Thanks. Any info is helpful.

The whole building is supposed to be all cheever, but they won’t force you to participate in the Cheever program if you don’t want to be in it. You’ll get a lot of emails about meetings and stuff but you can ignore them if you don’t want to go. But it’s one evening every other week and it’s a lot of fun and the BEST opportunity on campus to make friends in your hall, so you would be crazy not to go if you are free during the meetings. You’ll like Newberry and Cheever. Being a Newberry girl was the best part of my time at Michigan. You’re going to live in one of the nicest dorms on campus with a really great community in what is arguably the best location in town, you’re two buildings down from the Union. Don’t stress yourself out over nothing, you have a great housing assignment and even though you WOULD probably love cheever you do not have to do it.

ETA: And there is a really great scholarship program for cheever girls, too. There are few other opportunities for scholarships at Michigan with such a small competitive pool. Just saying.
