All is lost?

Hello, I am a senior applying ED. Before i explain my situation i would like to say i know the average qualifications of someone applying to SLO

Saying that, I would say my situation is grim, in fact possibly worse than that. Being a senior I’m highschool I managed to squeak through sophomore and junior with about a 3.1 GPA and a 1600 and 24 SAT and ACT respectively. I am retaking both, the first being the ACT in october except I fear that the scores will be processed too late (not entirely sure how this works, what I THINK happens is you have to manually enter them online…?) I really don’t know…
(BTW I want to go into engineering, probably arch. engineering or mechanical)
With that I realize the improbability of me getting accepted both ED and regular. I am an athlete, but was never good enough to influence my acceptance (swimming)
Is there anything else that might be able to influence me getting in? I understand community college is an opportunity, which is a road I do not want to take.
My friend is talking to one of professors, I don’t think it will amount to anything but anything would be helpful
I’m *****ed, right?

The majors you are interested in are the some of the most competitive for admissions within Cal Poly. Your GPA is obviously quite fixed by now. So your only chance of getting in is really your ACT/SAT. You need to do absolutely brilliantly (I am thinking ACT 32-34) to compensate for you low GPA. Otherwise, you will need to rely on divine intervention. Cal Poly does take some students with lower stats every year, but the number of students that fall into this category is minuscule. So I guess you can also get some knee pads and pray hard.

Given you are retaking it in October, there might still be a chance you can get the new scores in. Just call admissions and ask them about the time frame issue you have. They are very friendly and helpful on the phone. They won’t blow you off.

You might have a chance at a less impacted major, but Cal Poly SLO’s Engineering and Architecture programs are among the best in the state and nation, and are extremely competitive. Most students with over 4.0s still aren’t confident with their chances.

In all honesty, unless you score perfect scores on your SAT and ACT next time you take them, you are probably f***ed.
