To answer both: you really apply both by the website and by mail. The Precandidate questionaire is the first step and you access via the website www.academyadmissions.com Click on "Ready to Apply" at the bottom of the screen and then click on Precandidate Instruction (the hyperlink in blue or red -- can't remember). You'll download the precandidate instructions which are lengthy. You submit that by mail. After you submit, you will receive a note saying you are prequalified (or are a precandidate) and then you can start the application process. That means you've met the minimum standards academically assuming you are truthful -- since there hasn't been any official records sent yet. Hope this helps.

Sorry, it DOES allow you to submit on line. Also, you have to click on admissions first, then you'll see "on-line application" at the bottom. That's where you access the precandidate questionaire.

how hard is it?(if u know)

is anyone a member of the National Honor Society?

Well, I'm the president of my school's National Honor Society.

wow, i'd bet u have a very very good chance of getting into the academy, i wish m school had a chapter of the national honor society

does anyone know if having an internship might increase your chances of getting into the academy?

Well, um, I already got into the academy. You could always start your own National Honor Soceity at your school. Pretty much any activity that arn't incriminating or silly will increase your chances of getting into the academy, but certain activities, those that involves leadership and service, will increase your chances at a higher rate.

c/falcon -- just download it and check it out!

u know whats not fair? that excuricular activities does not count for the 9th grade, and how can i start my own national honor society?

There really isn't anything "unfair" about not counting 9th grade, they're just not punishing people who needed time to adjust to high school and discover the clubs available. Besides, I'd strongly encourage you to join/start clubs in the ninth grade, because you'll obtain more experience for you to be a better candidate when you run for office. "You must learn to follow before you lead."

On National Honor Society, technically you have to be a second semester sophomore (with 3.5 GPA) in order to even be a member of the society, so I'd wait until you're a second semester sophomore to start one. I'm not sure if you can start something that you can't be a member of...Anyways, this website has the NHS charter application and step-by-step instructions.

Let me know if you need anything else. It's really a great organization, because it's the only organization in high school I know of that emphasize on the importance of character. I had preach against plagiarism a couple times. Kinda like the academy, huh? ;)

Some school systems (like mine) have a junior high system that goes 7-9. Participation in many teams and clubs gets very limited by this.

thanks man, ill see if i could convince my principal to start a chapter

solormax, whats the academt appoitment like? how was your resume like when you applied to the academy? last question - can a candidate attach a letter of recomendation to his/hers academy application

Not quite sure what you're asking here "whats the academy appointment like?" Please be alittle more specific. If you're asking how is it like when I recieve it? It was fun and I could stop jumping up and down for a while.

Resume- No appintee's resumes are indentical and many of them are drasticlly different. Just make sure you excel in academics, leadership, community service, and physical. Be well-rounded. Go for things that you like and enjoy and you'll most likely to excel at them. Here's a sample of my resume if you really want it. Don't burn yourself out.
Varsity swimming- 4 yrs
Swim Team Captain
National Honor society president
American Red Cross Volunteering
Student Government-2 years (Class secretary, ASB Assemblies Director)
Model UN Ambassador
Key Club Project Coordinator
Debate Team
....That's about it.

Letter of Rec- The academy gives you official letter of recommendation forms and there's a little check list and a space to write general comments. Instead of writting in the general comments, your teacher may attach it and send it together. However, your teacher has to fill out the check list. Another note, my admission counselor told me that they prefer the 3rd recommendation (which can be your choice) to be a science teacher.

The important thing for you is be motivated, try hard, and be dedicated all four years. As long as you do that, you'll surely get in. Good luck.

lol, thanks a lot solormax. what i meant about what is the appointment like is when you actually go to the academy for that appoitment

Finally got the paper in my hand!! I just got the appointment in the mail on Friday.

Congradulations Patriot CPM!

c/Falcoln-
"what i meant about what is the appointment like is when you actually go to the academy for that appoitment"

I'm getting inducted this coming June. So I can't tell you that.

congrats patriot, im pretty mad cause i recieved a nomination for to attend the National Young Leaders Conference in Wahsington D.C. this summer, and i am more than willing to go but my parents dont have the money for me to attend the program, however i was nominated the attend the Aerospace and Technology Honors Camp from my SASI. Major Rosembaum, my SASI, told me i have a great chance of getting in im still wiating for the results. Honors Camp is basically a camp at a university where you learn about Aerospance and TEchnology and you get to visit an Air force base multiple times. and you get to fly an airplane (so i heard), sigh... im still waiting, i guess i better get used to waiting for results, i hear thats how the academy application is like

c/falcon - are you still interested in going to the young leaders conference? I know of a way you can get that paid for but you will have to send me a private message if you are interested with the details of the costs, dates, etc.
