Is this a good or a bad sign as far as acceptance? I did pretty well last quarter, I made the high honor roll (>90 quarterly average) with 2 AP classes and an honors class.

Do I have to wait to send them my literal mid-term grades that I don't receive until February or can I just send them my first quarter grades on Monday?

I’d send them your first quarter grades on Monday AM along with a note that these are your most recent grades and that Pitt is your top choice of colleges. If they want the Feb grades they can ask for them. Hopefully the first quarter will convince them that your are the best candidate not already given a Pitt acceptance letter. Good luck!

Nah it wasn’t a deferral, just a request for “more information, specifically your mid-year senior grades.”

My school faxed the grades over today. Is there an email I can send a note to saying what aglages advised? Would it be that admissions processor they give assign you based on last name?

You did not mention your SAT/ACT scores. Pitt places heavy weight on those tests and they often determine eligibility to certain programs. You may be the smartest student with outstanding capabilities, but you could be deferred to a branch campus if you don’t have their “ideal” score range. It happened to my friends. They had missing information from me and when I spoke to them on the phone I received two different answers for one question. They were also very ignorant and rude. Just continue to hang in there and get them what they need. Don’t bother with e-mails because they are slow to respond. Trust me, admissions at Pitt can mix things up.

Test scores I’m not worried about, I got a 1380/1600 on my SAT with an 800 on US History and a 710 on Lit.

My average is what worries me. Currently it’s about an 86 (I have no idea what that is on a 4.0 scale, my school doesn’t do that). I hope that with my good first quarter senior grades they’ll realize I’m not going to screw around anymore.

I did the essay when I submitted my application, sent them all my test scores (even the SAT IIs, which Pitt says they don’t take), and my school faxed over my first quarter grades last Monday. Hopefully they’ll give me a shot.

You might be okay, but now that it is january and having a gpa around an 86 does make it much more difficult. you might be on the borderline. if worse comes to worse and you are deferred, pick your 2nd top choice school.

Does anybody know what applicants receive a request for mid-term grades? Or does everybody?
I have been accepted to Pitt. My stats (listed below) look relatively good. Ironically it is my mid-term grades that are suffering. Should I expect a letter asking for mid-term grades?

1850/2400 SATs
3.65 weighted GPA (grade 9-11)
Honors and AP classes

I have a recieve the same letter in the mail and I am going to send in my first quater grades also. In my letter they also mention about sending in the other supplemental information. I have already sent in my essay, but that was it. Now I am going to send a letter of recomendation and what ever I can I think that gets Pitt “to know me better.”

smart.cookie I’m going for linguistics, it was a bit hard to find a school with the major and I heard from a few people that Pitt’s program is pretty good. Plus the Less-Commonly-Taught Language Center is awesome in a nerdy sort of way :P.

Aglages, #3 speaks the truth. Thanks for the help, dude.
