I was accepted to CAS for economics (perhaps government). I have to write checks to take my AP exams soon. I'm in an AP English class that prepares us for both English exams (Literature and Language) and we must sit for one, but have the option of taking both.

Would it be in my best interest to take both exams, or should I not waste my time and money on a second?

i would suggest taking the English language one, its alot easier, i took it last year and got a 5. but then, my school does pretty well on those, we have a 98% pass rate for the English Literature exam, im in the class that prepares me for that this year.

Yeah, my teacher has a pretty strong track record for both exams (he likes to boast about it). The only advantage I can see for taking both exams, is if I get a 4 or less on one, and a 5 on the other, I can still get out of a writing seminar. If I only take one exam, I would only have one chance to get a 5.

If I were only going to take one, it would probably be language.

I think you should just take both of them if money isn’t an issue. You don’t really “study” for the AP English exams and like you said there’s a better chance for you to get a 5 on one of them. The thing with FWS’s is that they are very hit or miss. Some require a ton of work while others don’t. If you can place out of one I think your freshmen year will be much more enjoyable.

And yeah, I agree with jb5555, writing seminars are not that important.

I used my AP Lit exam to place out of one of my FWS reqs for CAS. Don’t think you need both, unless you are not confident that you will get a 5 on the AP.
