Alternate Major for Transfer Students

Is there an option on the UC Transfer App to declare an alternate major.
I'll be applying to UC Berkeley as an EECS major (CoE) and wanted to know if i would be allowed on the application to declare CS (CL&S) as my alternate major.

I presume that my chances would be higher for CS (CL&S) if i wasn't accepted to EECS on the basis of GPA.

there is no alternate for berkeley unless you have tap

Do know that for CoE you must have ALL prereqs done by Spring 2012, or you will not be admitted. I haven’t heard an exception to the rule yet.

If you will not have all prereqs done for EECS, I’d declare a similar major that you can finish prereqs for, then switch majors after you’re in (this is the sleezy back-door way, but heh, it works).

Yeah I only know two people that got into CoE: one for Bioeng had all the required pre-reqs and none of the recommended classes (GPA about a 3.6-3.7ish, due to ESL), and one for Mech Eng and they had all the pre-reqs and a few recommended courses (GPA probably 3.8+). I also know 2 people with 4.0 that were missing 1 or 2 pre-reqs for their respective major that didn’t get in… not sure how much that relates to EECS.

@econeric - I didn’t know of UCB TAP? Do you know where if SMC offers such a program?
I looked around this forum and read that it’s “invite only”. Any more information on how to actually apply/qualify for it would be helpful!

@anacondrea - you do realize that I said if I were to be rejecting on the BASIS OF GPA, I would want CS (L&S) to be a backup. Basically all of CS (L&S) pre-reqs are already part of the EECS pre-reqs. The only difference would be i would neeed IGETC. which im doing as well.

@killmyentourage - yeah. i’m in a big mess. cant decide between CS L&S and EECS.
