I am planning to apply to the College of Engineering as a Civil Engineering major and list my alternate major as biochemistry. If I do not get into the College of Engineering, because I know it is very competitive, would I still be able to gain admission to Mich into LSA as a biochem major if found qualified or does applying to CoE at all hurt my chances?

Also, if I get in as an engineering major, but find I do not like it, is it difficult to change majors into LSA? What about from LSA to CoE?

What are they looking for in CoE applicants? I have a 3.67 unweighted GPA and a 4.2 weighted. I have ALL B's in my math classes! (Alg.2, Trig, Pre-cal, and now anticipating a B in Calc AB). But, I have A's in my science classes, and a 33 math ACT. Should I still try for engineering?

Now, I just looked over my Michigan supplement. It looks like I won’t be able to list an alternate major. I’ll just go all in for the college of engineering. Can I apply undeclared engineering? How would I do that?

Can I just apply undeclared, since I really have no clear idea of what I want to major in yet?

To be good in engineering you really have to enjoy and be good at math. It sounds to me like you’re more suited for a science-based major.

Well, I was hoping my 33 in ACT math could show that I’m pretty good at math. Is there any way I could apply alternate majors? I know for UCs at least, I could list my primary intended major with something out of the school of engineering and list an alternate major in another school. Can I do that with the University of Michigan application? On the supplement, it looks like I could only choose alternate majors from within the same school of my primary intended major.

Help?
