alternate majors

How often do people get accepted for their alternate major and not their primary?

UCLA and UC Berkeley do not consider alternate majors, even though you have the option of choosing them.

what's more, the major you choose (provided you are within the college of letters and science) has no bearing on your admission.
Your chances won't be any better or worse as a philosophy major than as a biochemistry or astrophysics major.

actually, some people who got into the engineering school like me(letter wise) were deffered to their alt. major if their alt. major was in the same school. I was deffered from bio engineering to electrical engineering because Bio engineering was so impacted. Some others were deffered from Bio Engineering to Chemical engineering.

if you applied and auditioned/sent portfolio for the school of arts and architecture and did not get in...you are rejected to ucla with out an alternative major choice. btw can some one answer my question about the ucla arts alumni scholarship?

so basically if we didnt get a hsseas letter and our alternate major is something outside of hsseas we didnt get accepted. what a bummer

actually ccbound there were some who has biochemistry as an alternate major but were put into chemical engineering probably because it was similar. U still have a chance!

um......if they applied to chem engineering as their primary, then they got in because the engineering school wanted them.

biochemistry is through L&S, and aside from the fact that your secondaries arent really taken into consideration, they're not going to shove an L&S admit onto HSSEAS's tab, especially considering how many apply and get in each year.

no their primary was bioengineering, but they were put into chemical engineering instead, probably because chemical engineering was most directly related with biochem. Therefore when they get into engineering school they can always switch majors., Also i got deffered to my alternate major instead of bioengineering. I got double e instead of bio e.

Actually, sonic, my alternate major was business to clarify there. I do believe there is no explanation why I was placed into Chemical Engineering after being deferred from Bio E since my L&S alternate didn't match at all oO;; Anyways, I haven't heard of anyone getting into their alternate major, but I do believe you have a chance if they aren't in the same college (A lot harder to get into Engineering than L&S) so you shouldn't totally rule out UCLA just yet. As for LA and Cal not considering alternate majors, I think some of this assumption is perpetuated in part because Cal doesn't let you select an alternate major.

For clarification: All L&S applicants are admitted not on the basis of their listed major. It simply does not matter.

For HSSEAS and TFT and other programs, it matters. However, let me repeat: your major is not considered at time of admission for L&S. Everyone is essentially admitted as a "no-major."
