Alumni Association Scholarship - Alumni Honors Scholarship

CRIMSON SCHOLARSHIP – four-year Academic Elite scholarship that pays an amount equal to the cost of tuition, an annual housing allowance, book grant, and educational enrichment allowance; awarded to entering freshmen; minimum 32 ACT (1400 SAT), 3.8 GPA, top 2% of senior class, and extensive leadership

I’m trying to remember if I’ve ever heard how many of these are awarded. 10? more? less?

The extensive leadership part is interesting because I wonder how many kids fill out the scholarship app without going into much detail because they are thinking they’re going to get the automatic scholarships which don’t consider ECs and leadership.

*
ALUMNI HONORS SCHOLARSHIP – four-year scholarship awarded to entering freshmen; minimum 30 ACT (1330 SAT) and 3.0 GPA; $8,000 per academic year.*

This one is interesting because for an OOS student with an ACT 30/31, it essentially gives them the Presidential…unless this is only given to students who don’t get the UA Scholar because they don’t have a 3.5 GPA.

That would be a perfect complement to the Presidential (non-NMF), would basically bring them up to an award similar to NMF. Hard to say though, if they save those for students not making the automatic award level.

Yes, I don’t know if that $8k scholarship is something new or what. I had never heard of it before this year.

hey guys, dont forget to save one for my son too!!

There were five Crimson scholarships awarded to incoming freshmen last fall. Don’t know if that’s the norm?

Gosh, only 5? I was hoping that there would be at least 10…but I know that they are expensive…

Talked with alumni office this morning. Turns out that the alumni honors scholarship is instead of the university level scholarships not in addition to or independent of. They said my son was eliminated from consideration because he received the UA Scholar scholarship from the University (The UA Scholar scholarship being higher value than the Alumni Honors scholarship).

It makes you wonder who then would qualify…

If a kid has an ACT 32+, but didn’t get the Presidential, that means his GPA is too low…so it’s not right that the person be rewarded by being given a scholarship that is BETTER than the Presidential.

There must be more to this…

keep up the hunt m2ck!

I don’t quite see what you’re saying, “ALUMNI HONORS SCHOLARSHIP – four-year scholarship awarded to entering freshmen; minimum 30 ACT (1330 SAT) and 3.0 GPA; $8,000 per academic year.”

that’s not anywhere near the tuition benefit of Presidential. I read it as four years @ $8K/yr., that is not in addition to any other tuition benefit.

Crimson is much better than Presidential, but need 3.8 to be eligible for that, plus leadership etc.

Bummer though, I was hoping against hope that DS would be able to get an extra $8K on top of Presidential.

“Fairness” doesn’t always apply in any case, have to consider that non-NMFs from higher requirement states may have better PSATs than some NMFs who get full everything here (and elsewhere).

Oooops…lack of sleep with sick kitty the last few days…

I was thinking that post #28 was saying that the Crimson scholarship was not given to students who already have the Presidential.

I need more sleep… LOL
