alumni association wants me to "donate" to their scholarship?

I got a call from a restricted number yesterday. It was a guy, who tried to make small talk with me about me being a graduating senior in December and about how seniors never get scholarships because those are usually for incoming freshmen/whatnot. And then, he asked me to donate $250 to their scholarship foundation for college seniors. I seriously thought this was a sleazy scam. But today, I received a 'thank you' email from the university foundation. The guy was apparently a student fundraiser. Now, I feel bad for hanging up on him. But seriously, what kind of numbnuts would think that a broke-a55 college student would have $250 stuck behind their couch cushion?

P.S. I just realized this was more of a rant than a discussion, but whatever. :)

Yea, we are still paying D’s tuition, after paying S’s tuition and the U wanted us to give out D’s contact info so they could call her to donate to a SR gift to the U! I declined, saying that we’re busy paying our tuition bills and really aren’t interested in giving even MORE to the U than the hefty tuitions we’ve been paying every year since 2006! Don’t know why they would think our student would be living in our home in HI while attending the U in LA either, but it’s probably the only phone number they have for us & D. D has not a penny that we haven’t provided for her at this point and we feel we have given more than enough at this point.

yea. with increasing tuition everywhere and decreased financial aid, asking for more money from you (fundraiser or not) seems like insult to injury doesn’t it?
