So, I have never had an interview, and I now have an alumni interview with Middlebury on Monday...!!! Umm, has anyone else had an alumni interview? What was it like??

Don't worry too much about most college interviews. Admissions people really just want someone to tell them, without bias, that you're a normal, intelligent person. Just be friendly and don't stress. Also, the alumni interview is a chance for the college to try to sell you on their school through the alum. They want you to ask questions, get excited about the school, hear from someone who went there, etc. It's a give and take, not an interrogation.

how did you schedule the interview? I didn't see any space or box where i could request an interview (i might have just missed it..)

srvnvly90--you should be contacted by an alum in the next couple of weeks. Middlebury offers an alumni interviews to all applicants who live near an alum.

I just got my phone call today for my interview. Is it formal - should we dress up? I'm not too sure - mine's scheduled at the local Borders. =P

No need to dress up, but don't show up in ripped jeans and a t-shirt. Remember, first impressions mean a lot, and how you dress tells a lot about you.

Gotcha - I wasn't planning on doing jeans and a t-shirt. I was thinking like, khakis and a sweater (basically what I have to wear to school b/c my school has this weird dress code).

I just got back from mine. The lady was very friendly, we actually met in a swanky bar haha...that could have been awkward. Anyways, it was really good but it only went for 20 minutes! I would be worried about that except she only had 4 questions written down on her notepad so I guess its not supposed to be that long...

Yeah, my interviewer told me on the phone when he called me that he tries to keep them to under a half an hour and mine lasted about 45 minutes, so I wouldn't worry if it didn't last too long. Hopefully you at least asked your interviewer a few questions so it didn't look like you were just there because you had to be.

Mine was yesterday at the alum's house. She pulled out a notepad with 3 pages of questions and took about an hour. It was fine though and I had a nice time visiting with her. I can't wait to hear if I get in--this was my second interview-I interviewed on campus this summer (and it wasn't that great). So I was happy to have another opportunity to interview. Good luck to all!

I'm an international and got an email today. I'll phone a Midd graduate maybe on Monday or Tuesday. I've never had a college interview and don't know how these things go. How should I prepare? What types of things will I be asked? What should I ask? Damn...

I had mine on Saturday. The woman who interviewed me was SO friendly! Her and I talked a lot about sports and the area, and about the weather compared to where I am (South Jersey) in the winter. She played basketball @ Midd, and her coach is the JV Field Hockey coach so we had something in common there; we even applied to some of the same schools!

She asked me questions like:

If Midd could know one thing about you that wasn't really represented in your application, what would it be

What are your interests/what would you like to major in

Other than that, she mainly asked me questions about field hockey & horseback riding (my 2 main things) - and about my grades in school and stuff.

Good luck!

My Middlebury interview took over 2 hours, and the guy showed up in bike shorts and old t-shirt!

It went pretty okay though, he went through a list of questions that the college recommended he asked, I think. Expect questions like 'why do you want to go to Middlebury' or 'how do you see yourself contributing to the Middlebury community', that sort of thing.

But mostly they ask you about yourself, they want to get to know you better.

I don't really understand why I haven't been contacted for an interview yet. I live in a huge city, there are plenty of Mid grads here, and I submitted my application right on time. Also, we had Mid reps come to my school and everything.

I interview well, and I'd love to have one. Should I contact the Admissions office?

ceebee, unfortunately I think it is too late - our interview reports were due to Admissions on the 18th, and that was after an extension of the original due date of the 8th.

I am sorry you did not get contacted in good time.
