i am one of the people that makes phone calls for the alumni scholars club to prospective applicants and either way. if you get an email, if you don’t. if you get a phone call, if you don’t. it means NOTHING. it doesn’t mean they didn’t like your application and it doesn’t mean they liked it. It has absolutely nothing to do with admissions. The people who are contacted are chosen at random. Please stop worrying.

^ But why just offer it to random people? It doesn’t make sense.

I received this email as well and just 10 minutes ago, someone from the association called my house and suggested that I apply.

The Alumni Association does its own screening of applicants and invites a set of applicants whose credentials are in line with the missions/values of the scholarship. The invitation is not an indicator of admission status (in the past few years, about 50% of the scholarship applicants are accepted to the campus). The scholarship is open to all applicants and whether you apply or not has no bearing on your admission status.

^^ Not completely true. The AA is provided with a list from admissions, of people who have numbers worthy of admission. You are correct in that getting an email does NOT mean that you are admitted, but rather that you are among the top tier of applicants.

The scholarship is open to all, but only a rather small % of applicants receive the email (I’m not at liberty to say the exact #). You have a better than average chance of being admitted if you did receive it =)

Ps- APPLY!
